Sanwo-Olu Donates 100 Vehicles, Security Gadgets to Strengthen Lagos Safety Operations
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday announced the donation of 100 vehicles and security gadgets to strengthen safety operations and improve rapid response capabilities across the state.
The governor made the announcement at the 19th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) in Victoria Island.
This year’s event, themed “Building Trust, Enhancing Security: A New Era of Security and Partnerships,” also emphasised the need for deeper citizen involvement in addressing emerging security threats.
Sanwo-Olu noted that safeguarding lives and property must be treated as a shared responsibility, urging residents to take ownership of security efforts.
“Every investment we make in security is a direct investment in peace, order, and prosperity. Security is not a task for the government alone. It is a shared duty, and we must continue to work together to build a safer Lagos for all,”
— Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
He reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to partnering with the federal government and security agencies to maintain a crime-free environment.
Sanwo-Olu also revealed that the founder of Premier Lotto Limited (PLL) has pledged to build and donate a new facility to LSSTF within one year.
LSSTF Reports Over ₦1.7bn Spent on Security Interventions
Speaking at the event, LSSTF Executive Secretary Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan disclosed that the agency spent ₦1,775,543,613.81 on security interventions between December 19, 2024, and December 12, 2025.
This expenditure was drawn from the ₦1,848,406,100.00 received as cash donations within the same period.
Ogunsan added that LSSTF received 228 security vehicles, all fitted with communication and surveillance equipment.
Of these:
- 217 vehicles were donated by the Lagos State Government
- 2 vehicles came from the SNEPCO/Shell Joint Venture
- 9 vehicles (seven buses and two 15-ton troop carriers) were purchased directly by LSSTF
He said the vehicles were allocated across security agencies to boost mobility and drastically improve response time.
Other resources donated during the year include:
- 1,500 pairs of police boots
- 2,000 police uniforms with badges
- 100 rechargeable flashlights
- 100 batteries
- 8 drums of SAE 40 lubricant
Additionally, 220 police personnel were sponsored for specialised training.
Ogunsan emphasised that LSSTF maintains a transparent governance structure and approved all security requests within 24 hours, allowing it to address threats swiftly. He also announced the expansion of LSSTF’s retail donor programme after receiving ₦38 million from about 240 individual donors in just four weeks.
He added that officers who demonstrated exceptional bravery—such as the police team behind the July 4, 2024 Ladipo anti-kidnap raid, which neutralised nine suspects—would be publicly honoured.
