Yuletide: Lagos Police Deploy 5,000 Officers to Tighten Security Across State
The Lagos State Police Command has deployed over 5,000 police officers across the state as part of comprehensive security measures aimed at ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow during the Yuletide season.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the deployment is designed to address increased vehicular movement and heightened security concerns associated with the festive period.
“To address traffic management and ensure the free flow of vehicular movement, especially during the festive rush, over 5,000 police personnel have been deployed for traffic duties across major highways, inner roads, and identified traffic-prone areas in the State,” Adebisi said.
According to the police, the security operation comprises conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine police, and special squads, all strategically positioned to prevent crime and respond swiftly to security threats.
Marine officers have been tasked with intensifying patrols and surveillance along Lagos waterways to prevent criminal infiltration, while intelligence operatives will closely monitor individuals or groups whose activities could threaten public peace.
The command added that Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units have been directed to intensify patrols, ensure visible policing, and maintain round-the-clock surveillance across all parts of the state before, during, and after the festive celebrations.
“Deployed officers have been charged to remain professional, courteous, but firm in the discharge of their duties,” the statement read.
In addition, the Lagos Police Command disclosed that it recently held a strategic security meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside other security and safety agencies, to develop sustainable strategies aimed at reducing road accidents and enhancing public safety.
The command further revealed that joint police teams, comprising conventional officers, tactical squads, smart operatives, and intelligence units, have been deployed statewide to crack down on traffic robbers, hoodlums, miscreants, and other criminal elements seeking to exploit the festive season.
Special security attention, the police said, is also being accorded to places of worship, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks, and other public gathering points expected to experience heavy human traffic during the celebrations.
Reacting to the deployment, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents of the command’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property.
He reaffirmed the police’s “unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and properties throughout the festive season and beyond.”
