Military Moves to Court 16 Officers as DHQ Wraps Up Major Disciplinary Probe

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has concluded investigations into disciplinary cases involving sixteen officers arrested over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, who recalled that the Defence Headquarters had earlier issued a press statement in October 2025 announcing the arrest of the officers following allegations of misconduct.

According to him, a comprehensive investigation carried out in line with established military procedures has now been completed, with the investigation report forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in accordance with extant regulations.

Major General Uba explained that the probe thoroughly examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel and established that a number of the officers have cases to answer.

He revealed that the allegations include serious offences, notably claims of plotting to overthrow the government, actions he described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).

The Director further disclosed that the affected officers would be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.

He stressed that the process would ensure accountability, while also upholding fairness and due process in line with military justice principles.

Major General Uba emphasised that the actions being taken are purely disciplinary, noting that they form part of the Armed Forces’ internal mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.

He reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and unwavering respect for constitutional authority, assuring the public that the military remains resolute in upholding national stability and democratic governance. Read More
