Ogun West Professionals have adopted Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as their sole 2027 governorship candidate as Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele calls for unity and endorses President Tinubu

2027: Ogun West Professionals Declare Yayi Sole Governorship Candidate as Senate Leader Bamidele Calls for Unity
A major political realignment is taking shape ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, as the Ogun West Professionals have formally adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as their sole and consensus governorship candidate.
The group also threw its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him for a second term in 2027, in what observers describe as a strategic move to align regional aspirations with national political stability.
The declaration was made on Sunday in Ilaro, during the Ogun West Professionals for Yayi Media Chat held at the Frontier Hotel and Resorts, drawing political leaders, technocrats and professionals from across the senatorial district.
The high-profile event featured the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, as guest speaker, alongside the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, and Chief Jide Ojuko, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Ogun State.
‘Only a United Ogun West Can Win’ — Bamidele
Delivering a keynote address titled “The Power of Internal Coherence in Securing External Support: A Roadmap to Achieving Ogun West Governorship Ambition in 2027,” Senator Bamidele charged political and professional elites in Ogun West to set aside personal ambitions and embrace collective purpose.
“Internal coherence is not optional; it is indispensable. Unity is political capital. It unlocks party confidence, elite endorsements, cross-district alliances and statewide voter legitimacy,” Bamidele declared.
He described Ogun State as a “peculiar case of political exclusion,” noting that Ogun West has never produced a governor since the creation of the state in 1976, despite decades of democratic governance.
“There is no denying the reality that a section of Ogun State has been consistently denied the topmost leadership position. But beyond structural exclusion, internal fragmentation within Ogun West has also weakened its political bargaining power,” he said.
Bamidele warned that failure to close ranks could once again derail the district’s ambition.
“Multiple aspirants will only split votes. Political parties will bypass the district. External power blocs will dictate outcomes. The cost of disunity in 2027 will be historic,” he cautioned.
Why Yayi Emerged Consensus Choice
Participants at the media chat said professionals across disciplines deliberately rallied around Senator Adeola to present a single, credible and governance-ready candidate, capable of mobilising statewide support.
The group identified lack of unity, coherence and a common voice as the major obstacles that had undermined previous attempts by Ogun West to clinch the governorship.
In separate remarks, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu (Ogun Central), Senator Lekan Mustapha and Professor Femi Oke described the 2027 election as a rare opportunity to correct historical imbalance in Ogun politics.
They praised Senator Adeola as a bridge-builder, citing his developmental interventions across Ogun West, Central and East, and his ability to attract federal presence to the state.
‘Beyond Sentiment, Engage with Strategy’ — Salako
Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, urged Ogun West leaders to go beyond emotional arguments.
“It is not enough to say ‘it is our turn.’ Ogun West must engage other districts with facts, logic, data and persuasive arguments. Political balance is achieved through strategy, not sentiment,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Steering Committee, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, said the group was formed to pool professional resources, enforce unity and present a credible roadmap for achieving the governorship in 2027.
Tinubu Endorsed, Yayi Adopted
The event climaxed with the formal endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and the adoption of Senator Olamilekan Adeola as the preferred Ogun West governorship candidate.
An award was also presented to Senator Adeola in recognition of his contributions to Ogun State. He was represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan.
Political analysts say the move signals the most coordinated push yet by Ogun West to end decades of marginalisation and reposition the district as a serious contender in the 2027 governorship race. Read More
