The Lagos State Government has announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow for rehabilitation works by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The closure will take effect from Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and run through Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the repair works will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, impacting both inbound and outbound lanes.
Two-Phase Traffic Diversion Plan
According to the statement, the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases to minimise disruption.
Phase One, affecting Abeokuta-bound traffic, will run from February 11 to March 4, 2026.
The affected section spans from U-Turn Bus Stop inward to Sango Tollgate.
During this phase, motorists travelling from Lagos/Abule-Egba toward Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres away from the active construction zone.
Rehabilitation will be executed one lane at a time, with traffic redirected to completed sections as work progresses.
Motorists heading toward Lagos will enjoy uninterrupted movement during this period.
Phase Two will commence on March 4 and conclude on March 11, 2026.
It will affect Lagos-bound traffic between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction.
Traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate toward Lagos/Abule-Egba will similarly be diverted through one half of the road, about 20 metres from the work area.
As in Phase One, repairs will be conducted in halves, with traffic moved to rehabilitated sections upon completion.
During this second phase, Abeokuta-bound motorists will maintain free flow of traffic.
Advisory to Motorists
Osiyemi assured road users that adequate traffic management measures would be deployed throughout the duration of the project.
He urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, comply with traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic officials to ease movement along the corridor.
The state government appealed for patience and understanding, emphasising that the repairs are essential to improving road safety and driving conditions along one of Lagos’ busiest transport routes.
