Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has described First Lady Oluremi Tinubu as a blessing to the nation, praising her compassion, humility, and dedication to supporting the poor and vulnerable.
Governor Oborevwori made the remarks during a grand homecoming reception at the palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, where thousands of residents gathered to welcome the First Lady.
Highlighting her decades of public service, Oborevwori recalled Tinubu’s tenure in the Senate and her advocacy for policies benefiting Nigerians. “We are blessed to have a humble and compassionate First Lady who genuinely cares for the poor and vulnerable in our communities,” he said, describing her as a worthy daughter of the Itsekiri nation.
The visit marked Senator Tinubu’s third official engagement in Delta State in two years, following her August 2024 launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) empowerment programme in Asaba, and her March 2025 Free to Shine programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives.
The governor also lauded her respect for traditional institutions, noting that her prior visits strengthened ties with Delta’s royal fathers. Oborevwori reaffirmed Delta’s support for President Bola Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
During the event, Senator Tinubu announced a N50 million empowerment grant for 1,000 women engaged in petty trading in Warri Kingdom, aimed at boosting small businesses and household incomes. She also called on Nigerians to embrace unity across ethnic, religious, and political divides. “Where there is unity, there is prosperity,” she said, citing Psalm 133:1-3 and noting the overlap of the Christian Lenten season and Muslim fasting period as a reminder of togetherness.
Addressing the crowd, Tinubu described the visit as an emotional homecoming and expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government and the people of Warri for their warm reception. She assured continued Federal Government support for Delta, commending Oborevwori’s leadership.
In a highlight of the reception, Senator Tinubu was conferred with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom in recognition of her humanitarian contributions and dedication to women’s empowerment.
Prominent dignitaries, including former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and senior government officials, attended the event. Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), described Tinubu as a symbol of national peace and unity, emphasizing her impact on the Niger Delta through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Otuaro added, “It takes a generous heart to do the good things Her Excellency is doing to uplift humanity through her Renewed Hope Initiative,” highlighting her commitment to national development and social empowerment.
