Nigerian human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised the remand of Blord in prison, insisting that incarceration should not be celebrated as a legal victory.
Blord was on Wednesday remanded for 26 days at Kuje Correctional Centre by a Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations including impersonation of VeryDarkMan, forgery, identity theft, breach of privacy, and false endorsement.
Reacting in a Facebook post, Sowore condemned the handling of the case, arguing that justice should not be reduced to punishment driven by legal strategy or technical superiority.
He also took aim at the legal team representing VeryDarkMan, including lawyer Marshal D F Abubakar, accusing them of enabling what he described as oppression.
“No one should celebrate the incarceration of any person under the colour of law,” Sowore stated, warning that such actions risk strengthening a system that weaponises legal processes against citizens.
The activist further disclosed that he had reached out to Abubakar, urging him to withdraw from the case, while emphasising that true justice must be based on the strength of evidence rather than legal manoeuvring.
Sowore added that he would push for the discontinuation of the case and seek Blord’s release, stressing that justice must uphold fairness and not serve as a tool for repression.
The case has since sparked debate online, with differing opinions over the balance between legal accountability and the protection of individual rights.
