Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on security agencies to uphold due process and fairness in the ongoing detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement released on Friday, Frank urged authorities to ensure that El-Rufai’s fundamental rights are protected while granting him sufficient time and opportunity to prepare his defence.
According to Frank, the former governor willingly presented himself to security agencies after returning to Nigeria from Egypt, stressing that anti-corruption efforts must always align with the principles of justice and the rule of law.
He reaffirmed his support for the fight against corruption but warned against compromising fairness and due process in the pursuit of accountability.
“For the umpteenth time, I reiterate my support for the fight against corruption. However, fairness, justice, rule of law, and due process must never be sacrificed under any circumstance,” Frank stated.
The former APC spokesman also appealed to northern leaders, youths, civil society organisations, and the international community to closely monitor the situation and demand El-Rufai’s release.
Frank specifically urged groups such as the Nigerian Bar Association, religious leaders, traditional rulers, northern elders, and well-meaning Nigerians to ensure that the rights of the former Kaduna governor are respected.
“I pray that northern elders and youths will not sit back and watch anything untoward happen to Mallam El-Rufai,” he added.
He further described El-Rufai as a major political figure who played a significant role during the 2023 general elections, urging Nigerians to pay close attention to developments surrounding the case.
Frank also called on security agencies to handle the matter professionally and transparently, insisting that justice and accountability must remain central to all actions taken against the former governor.
El-Rufai remains one of Nigeria’s prominent political figures following his tenure as governor of Kaduna State and his continued influence in national politics.
