‘Becoming President Was Tough’ – Tinubu Thanks Loyal Governors for Standing by Him

President Bola Tinubu has reflected on the obstacles and sacrifices that marked his path to Nigeria’s highest office, describing the journey to the presidency as one of the most challenging periods of his political career.

Speaking on Friday while receiving members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum during a Sallah homage at his Lagos residence, the President expressed gratitude to political allies who stood by him throughout the process.

The delegation was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and included governors from across the country.

Tinubu acknowledged the unwavering support of several governors who joined him early in his presidential ambition, commending their patience, courage, and resilience during difficult moments.

“Instead of dodging the bullet, I took it. I took a punch in the chin, a very hard one,” the President said while recalling the challenges he encountered.

He noted that the struggle to emerge as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria tested the loyalty and commitment of many of his supporters.

“We stuck together the time I faced the challenge of trying to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was very challenging. It was tough for those who were with me. Some kept faith,” Tinubu stated.

The President also revealed that he embarked on his campaign with determination, keeping his plans largely private while relying on the support of trusted allies.

“I decided to take the effort to campaign. I didn’t disclose to anybody what I would do. Many of you took the risk and went ahead with me because of the party platform and everything,” he added.

Tinubu’s remarks highlighted the political hurdles and personal sacrifices that accompanied his successful bid for the presidency, while also underscoring the importance of loyalty among his supporters during the campaign period.
