Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has threatened to mobilise a protest to “Occupy Aso Rock” if authorities fail to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and other kidnap victims in Oyo State.

Sowore made the declaration in a post shared on his X account on Sunday, where he called on President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security chiefs to take immediate action to rescue those still being held captive.

According to the activist, the continued detention of the victims by their abductors is unacceptable and demands urgent intervention from the federal government.

“If Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his service chiefs fail to track down and secure the release of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and other kidnapped people, we will have no choice but to occupy Aso Rock Villa this week,” Sowore wrote.

The threat comes amid growing concerns over insecurity following the abduction of dozens of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15 when heavily armed gunmen attacked a group of schoolchildren in the area. During the assault, the attackers reportedly abducted at least 45 pupils and teachers.

The incident also claimed the lives of an assistant head teacher and a commercial motorcyclist, further heightening public outrage and calls for swift government action.

Security agencies are yet to announce the successful rescue of the victims, while families and residents continue to await positive developments.
