“Step Down Now” — Baba-Ahmed Tells President Tinubu to Quit, Cites Worsening Security Crisis

A national leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as a worsening security situation across the country.

Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to the President, accused the Tinubu administration of failing in its primary responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, he urged Nigerians to reject President Tinubu at the next election, arguing that the government has not demonstrated sufficient control over the country’s escalating insecurity challenges.

According to him, “It’s clear Tinubu has no handle on the escalating menace. Everything that needed to be said by the media, National Assembly, and civil society has been said, but Tinubu and his supporters believe this is a problem we can live with.”

He further alleged that insecurity had spread nationwide, claiming that “every inch of Nigeria is now vulnerable” and expressing concern over repeated incidents of abductions, including schoolchildren.

Baba-Ahmed insisted that his call for resignation was not driven by political rivalry but by national interest, arguing that no administration should remain in office if it cannot ensure citizens’ safety.

“In a civilized society, Tinubu’s record on insecurity should have cost him his seat a long time ago. It’s not too late to say the President should resign,” he said.

He added that leadership is fundamentally about protecting citizens and their livelihoods, stressing that the current situation, in his view, reflects a failure in that responsibility.

“Do we need to wait until more children are taken and the country is overrun by criminality? Saying the President should resign is not partisan—it is the right thing to do,” he stated.
