Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has returned to acting after failing to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Surulere Constituency I seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Photos and a video circulating on social media showed Elliot on the set of a new movie alongside fellow actor Ibrahim Chatta. The pair were seen discussing scenes during filming, with the clips generating excitement among fans eager to see the actor back on screen after years in active politics.
Elliot recently lost the APC primary election to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, ending his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Odunuga-Bakare secured a decisive victory in the party’s primary.
The actor’s return to Nollywood has been widely welcomed by fans, many of whom described it as a comeback to the industry where he built his reputation before entering politics.
Meanwhile, Elliot has dismissed the idea of switching political allegiance despite his primary election loss.
Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, the three-term lawmaker said he does not believe changing political parties is the solution to Nigeria’s challenges and ruled out leaving President Bola Tinubu for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to Elliot, leadership should be driven by service and humility, stressing that political power is temporary.
He also defended his record in office, saying Surulere has witnessed improvements in electricity supply and healthcare during his time as a lawmaker.
“I’m not sure. I ask myself, if I leave Asiwaju and I go to Obi, what is the difference between Asiwaju and Obi? If I leave Obi and I go to Atiku, what is the difference?” he said.
Elliot added that he has remained committed to public service and maintained that he had delivered meaningful development projects for residents of Surulere during his years in office.
