Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan has strongly criticised media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, over his comments regarding the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo.

Daddy Freeze had earlier faulted gospel singer Mercy Chinwo for allegedly turning the tribute event into a concert and also referenced gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey in his remarks.

Reacting in a lengthy Instagram post, Duncan insisted that the event was organised to celebrate Alex Ekubo’s life and had nothing to do with Daddy Freeze or anyone else’s personal preferences.

The actor clarified that the gathering was a night of tributes and a service of songs, not a funeral ceremony. He disclosed that several hymns were rendered during the event, including an emotional rendition of Blessed Assurance, which moved him to tears.

Duncan also challenged assumptions about Ekubo’s church affiliation, stressing that hymns are not exclusive to any particular denomination.

According to him, the event doubled as a night of worship because members of the late actor’s inner circle repeatedly emphasised that Ekubo loved worship music. He argued that a worship concert was, therefore, in line with what the late actor would have wanted.

The actor further criticised Daddy Freeze for not adhering to the event’s all-white dress code, noting that the media personality attended in black attire.

Duncan expressed disappointment that Daddy Freeze publicly revealed he left the ceremony in anger, describing such behaviour as inappropriate during a tribute event.

Concluding his remarks, Duncan said the service of songs was never about individual opinions or preferences and hoped his response would make it clear why Daddy Freeze’s comments were out of line.
