Former Minister of Power and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming that he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adelabu made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The rebuttal followed widespread rumours on social media alleging that the former minister had concluded plans to dump the ruling APC and join the SDP as political activities ahead of the 2027 polls begin to gather momentum.
Reacting to the claims, Adelabu described the reports as false, baseless and deliberately fabricated to mislead the public.
He stressed that he remains a committed and loyal member of the APC and has no intention of defecting to another political party.
“Those behind this rumour should understand that Chief Adelabu remains a committed and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and no amount of falsehood, propaganda, wishful thinking, or political mischief can alter that reality,” the statement read.
Adelabu further condemned the alleged defection reports, describing them as a calculated attempt to generate unnecessary media attention and create a false political narrative.
“The attempt to link Chief Adelabu with a non-existent defection agenda is highly disrespectful and should be condemned by all well-meaning members of the public. It is nothing more than a calculated effort to generate media attention and create an artificial political trend where none exists,” he added.
The former minister’s statement comes amid increasing political realignments and speculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
