Actor Uzor Arukwe has finally spoken about the death of his colleague, Alex Ekubo, explaining why he initially remained silent following the actor’s passing.

In an emotional tribute shared on Instagram, Arukwe revealed that he struggled to find the right words after learning of Ekubo’s death, describing the loss as one that left him in quiet disbelief.

According to the Nollywood star, some tragedies are difficult to process immediately and are first felt deeply within before they can be expressed publicly.

Reflecting on his relationship with the late actor, Arukwe recalled meeting Ekubo on the set of filmmaker Dabby Chimere. He described him as a warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind individual whose character matched the positive reputation he enjoyed among colleagues and friends.

Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, after battling metastatic kidney cancer, a development that sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Arukwe said listening to stories from people who knew Ekubo more closely reinforced an important lesson about life and legacy. He noted that beyond professional accomplishments and talent, people are ultimately remembered for their kindness, compassion, and the impact they have on others.

Explaining his delayed reaction, the actor said silence became his first response because grief often comes with moments of reflection rather than public expressions.

“I’ve been quiet. And I know some people wondered why I didn’t post, why I didn’t say anything, why there were no pictures, no captions, no public display of grief,” he wrote.

“The truth is, I didn’t know what to say. Some losses don’t meet you online first; they sit with you quietly. They make you shake your head and hope there has been a mistake.”

Paying his final respects, Arukwe thanked the late actor for his warmth, grace, and exemplary character, promising that those he left behind would continue to cherish his memory.

His tribute has since resonated with fans and colleagues, many of whom praised the heartfelt message and reflected on Ekubo’s enduring legacy in Nollywood.
