Fayose Threatens Political Showdown with Makinde Ahead of 2027 Election

  1. Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that he will politically confront Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections, accusing the Oyo governor of sidelining him within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West.

Speaking during an interview, Fayose alleged that Makinde had taken control of the PDP structure in the region and displaced long-standing party stakeholders, including himself.

The former governor said he would not remain silent over what he described as unfair treatment, warning that he would respond through political means.

“We will teach Makinde a political lesson. If you respect me, you will get all my values and support, but if you disrespect me, you will get the downside of Fayose. I’m not a politician that is taken for granted,” he said.

Fayose further claimed that Makinde dismantled the political network he had built within the PDP in the South-West, insisting that fairness should prevail in party politics.

“Makinde destroyed the South-West Peoples Democratic Party and took my structure. When we are in politics, we are meant to be fair,” he stated.

The former governor also took a swipe at Makinde’s reported presidential ambition, suggesting that the move had strained their political relationship.

While acknowledging that Makinde has the constitutional right to seek the nation’s highest office, Fayose maintained that political trust and loyalty should not be sacrificed in the process.

“Declaring for presidency was his undoing. He has the right to contest for president, but we don’t betray trust. Elections are not far away again. We will get there,” Fayose added.

His comments signal growing tensions within the PDP in the South-West as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
