President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting focused on the management and disposal of properties seized by the anti-graft agency across the country.

According to a statement issued by the State House media office on Tuesday night, the discussions centred on ensuring transparency and accountability in the handling and disposal of the properties.

The statement said the EFCC chairman and housing minister met with the President to discuss the management and disposal of seized houses nationwide in line with established rules of transparency and accountability.

The meeting came days after Tinubu intervened in a dispute between the EFCC and the Osun State Government over the freezing of the state’s accounts.

The EFCC had obtained an order on August 5 to freeze some Osun Government accounts as part of an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of ecology funds, intervention funds and allocations received from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The funds under investigation were reportedly worth about ₦11 billion.

The Osun State Government subsequently approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the freezing order, seeking its nullification and ₦2 billion in exemplary damages.

The state had also accused the EFCC of conducting an unsubstantiated “witch-hunt” against it since March.

However, following his victory in the recent governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke disclosed that he had directed the state Attorney General to withdraw the suit against the EFCC.

Adeleke, while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, credited Tinubu’s intervention with helping to resolve the dispute.

“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.
