Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has publicly expressed deep concern for the safety of her two sons, who remain in the custody of their father, her ex-husband Mutairu Atanda Orilowo.
Bakare, who married Orilowo in 2013 after divorcing her first husband Olumide Kunfulire in 2012, shared an emotional Instagram video detailing her fears. She accused Orilowo’s current wife of maltreating the boys and claimed she recently overheard a disturbing conversation while speaking with her children on the phone.
According to Bakare, during an argument in the household involving Orilowo’s wife and other children, the woman allegedly instructed one of the boys to strangle her sons’ necks rather than beat them in a way that would leave visible scars for their father to see.
“This is a difficult call. However, at this point every necessary step needs to be taken. And valuable intercession sought. All I want is my children’s safety,” Bakare wrote in the video caption.
She stated that her former husband has refused to allow the children to live with her, describing the situation as a “sad reality.” Bakare further alleged that Orilowo is withholding the boys partly out of spite and claimed she has a recording of the alleged abusive remarks by his wife.
The actress appealed to the public for support in her efforts to secure custody of her sons, emphasizing that the children’s well-being is her sole priority.
