Abba Yusuf Nude Video Allegation: Court Remands Sanusi Dankaka

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka at the Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations that he threatened to publish nude photographs and videos of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Facebook.

Justice Salim Ibrahim made the order on Monday after the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned Dankaka on a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime. The defendant pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, was filed by the DSS on October 22, with the prosecution alleging that the offences were committed in October 2026, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

In the first count, the prosecution alleged that Dankaka and other persons said to be at large used his Facebook account, identified as Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to threaten to release purported nude videos and photographs of the Kano governor.

The DSS further alleged that the material was false and that the publication was intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to Yusuf.

The prosecution cited Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, in connection with alleged aiding, abetting or conspiracy, and Section 24(1) of the same law. The precise statutory provisions and their application to the counts should be confirmed from the filed charge.

When the case came up on Monday, DSS counsel Yusuf Afegbua informed the court that the prosecution was ready to proceed. Defence counsel Kauna Penzin also indicated her readiness for the proceedings.

After the charges were read to him, Dankaka denied the allegations.

Afegbua subsequently asked the court to fix a date for trial and sought an order remanding the defendant at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The defence counsel did not oppose the application.

Justice Ibrahim granted the request and adjourned the case until December 7 for trial, ordering that Dankaka remain in custody.

The remand order does not amount to a conviction. The allegations remain to be proved in court, and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds.
