A wave of emotion swept through Arochukwu, Abia State, on Wednesday as the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty Eze Aro, offered prayers over the casket of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke and disclosed that the actor’s widow, Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, is reportedly expecting a child.
The touching moment occurred as the late actor’s remains arrived in his hometown for wake-keeping activities ahead of his burial scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Alex Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer, was honoured by family members, friends, colleagues, and community leaders as his body was transported from Lagos to Arochukwu. The funeral convoy made a symbolic stop at the palace of the Eze Aro before proceeding to the family compound.
While praying over the actor’s casket, the monarch expressed hope that Ekubo’s lineage would continue. Referring to reports that the late actor’s wife is pregnant, he prayed for the unborn child to surpass the achievements of his father and bring pride to the family and community.
Although the pregnancy report has not been independently confirmed by the family, the announcement stirred deep emotions among mourners, many of whom viewed it as a beacon of hope amid the sadness surrounding the actor’s passing.
