Former Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode backs Kadri Hamzat as APC’s 2027 governorship candidate, urging party unity and a 3 million vote target for President Tinubu
Ambode Backs Hamzat, Calls for APC Unity Ahead of 2027
Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has thrown his weight behind Kadri Obafemi Hamzat following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ambode described Hamzat’s emergence as a clear sign of unity within the party, noting that it reflects a “shared purpose” among APC stakeholders in Lagos.
He credited the outcome to what he called “deliberate and purposeful consultations,” adding that Hamzat’s loyalty, experience, and commitment to party ideals made him a natural choice to lead the ticket.
Ambode highlighted Hamzat’s governance credentials, pointing to his experience and deep understanding of Lagos’ developmental priorities as key strengths.
According to him, Hamzat’s track record positions him well to deliver on the state’s needs if elected, while also boosting the APC’s chances of maintaining its dominance in Lagos politics.
Reiterating his allegiance to party leadership, Ambode also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing the importance of continuity in governance at both state and national levels.
He urged APC members across Lagos and the South-West to unite and intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections.
“Now is the time to roll up our sleeves,” Ambode said, calling on stakeholders to ensure sweeping victories for the party.
He set an ambitious target of at least three million votes for Tinubu in the next electoral cycle.
Ambode ended his message on a hopeful note, expressing confidence in the future of Lagos and Nigeria. He also offered prayers for the success of the APC, the progress of the state, and the continued development of the nation.
His endorsement signals growing momentum within the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
