As party realignments and political courtships continue, all eyes will be on Governor Eno’s next move—and whether the APC’s invitation takes flight
APC Courts Akwa Ibom Governor Eno, Says Party “Ready to Fly”
In a pointed political jab that has stirred conversation in Akwa Ibom State and beyond, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended a symbolic invitation to Governor Umo Eno to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming the PDP is no longer a viable political vehicle.
The statement, released on Tuesday by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, responded to recent remarks by Governor Eno likening the PDP to a “faulty airplane” unfit for safe travel. The APC seized on the analogy, affirming the governor’s metaphor and positioning itself as a more stable and competent alternative.
“We couldn’t agree more that Plane PDP has become demonstrably inoperable and unsafe for travel,” Morka said, offering a thinly veiled invitation for the governor to consider switching allegiance. “Our great Party assures the Governor that Plane APC is fit and ready to fly His Excellency and entourage to their desired destination.”
The statement emphasized the competence of the APC’s “pilots and crew,” a figurative nod to the party’s leadership and structure, describing them as “highly competent, welcoming, and attentive to detail.”
Governor Eno, who took office under the PDP banner in 2023, has yet to publicly respond to the APC’s remarks. His earlier comment about the PDP’s state of disrepair appeared to reflect internal frustrations, though it is unclear whether it signaled any intention to leave the party.
Political observers view the APC’s statement as part of a broader effort to expand its influence in the South-South region, where the PDP has historically maintained a strong foothold.
The metaphor-laden exchange highlights both the ongoing rivalry between Nigeria’s two dominant parties and the strategic importance of high-profile defections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
