In a message marking this year’s Workers’ Day celebration, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan, a leading aspirant for the Lagos Island Local Government chairmanship, extended heartfelt appreciation to workers across the community, praising their resilience and contributions to economic development.

Addressing workers in a public statement on Wednesday, Oyekan acknowledged the critical role played by both formal and informal sector workers in sustaining Lagos Island’s bustling economy.

“Whether you work in an office or ply your trade, you are the reason we celebrate. Today is your day!” Oyekan said. “From the markets to the offices, from the streets to the factories, you are the driving force behind our community’s progress.”

Oyekan, who is positioning himself as a grassroots-focused leader ahead of the upcoming local government elections, used the occasion to reaffirm his support for the working class. He emphasized his commitment to policies that would reward hard work, promote dignity in labor, and enhance workers’ well-being.

The aspiring chairman called for continued recognition of workers’ contributions and extended wishes of “prosperity, good health, and happiness” to the men and women who keep Lagos Island running.

“You are the true heroes of our community, and I am honoured to stand with you on this special day,” he said.

Oyekan’s message aligns with a growing trend among political hopefuls to engage directly with constituents during key national observances.
