ASR Africa Strengthens Partnership With Nigerian Army, Confirms ₦2bn Housing Project 85% Complete
The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army, announcing that its ₦2 billion housing project for military personnel has reached 85 per cent completion.
The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by an ASR Africa delegation, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ubon Udoh, to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit, according to both parties, was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the philanthropic organisation and the Nigerian Army while reviewing the progress of ongoing intervention projects under ASR Africa’s Security Sector Support Grant.
Speaking during the meeting, Udoh congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as the Chief of Army Staff and also commiserated with him over the death of his predecessor.
He disclosed that the foundation’s flagship intervention for the Nigerian Army—a ₦2 billion, 120-unit Corporal and Below Quarters project—has attained an 85 per cent completion rate and remains on course for delivery.
“Our housing project for the Nigerian Army has now reached 85 per cent completion. We remain fully committed to delivering the project with the highest standards of quality, transparency and fiscal responsibility,” Udoh said.
He said the intervention reflects the vision of ASR Africa’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, who believes that sustainable peace, security and social cohesion are indispensable to national development.
“Our Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, strongly believes that no nation can achieve meaningful development without peace and stability. Supporting institutions that safeguard our country is therefore an investment in Nigeria’s future,” he said.
Udoh added that ASR Africa would continue to partner with institutions whose work contributes to national development through impactful and sustainable interventions.
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Shaibu, expressed appreciation to ASR Africa and its Chairman for what he described as a significant demonstration of corporate patriotism and commitment to the welfare of military personnel.
“I sincerely appreciate ASR Africa and its Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, for this remarkable support to the Nigerian Army. This gesture has further strengthened our resolve to do even more in service to our nation,” Shaibu said.
The Army Chief noted that soldiers continue to make enormous sacrifices in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and combating insecurity across various theatres of operation, stressing that improved welfare remains essential to sustaining morale within the Service.
He described ASR Africa’s intervention as exemplary, saying it had created a model for other corporate organisations and philanthropists to emulate.
“ASR Africa has set the pace for others. This is the kind of partnership that demonstrates genuine commitment to national security and the welfare of those who make daily sacrifices for the country,” he said.
Shaibu also appealed for additional support, particularly in the rehabilitation and welfare of wounded personnel and the families of fallen heroes, noting that such interventions would complement the Federal Government’s efforts in improving the living conditions of military personnel.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Nigerian Army alongside members of ASR Africa’s team of specialists, who discussed the progress of the housing project and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas that would enhance the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Service.
