Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Carter Efe has opened up about his decision to stop making relationship-focused videos with his former girlfriend.
Speaking on a recent episode of the podcast Cocktails & Takeaways, the popular comedian reflected on how his online content became heavily tied to his romantic relationship, creating challenges that eventually affected both his creativity and personal well-being.
Carter explained that he reached a point where he struggled to produce content whenever his girlfriend was not around. “There was a time I could not do content if I don’t see my woman. If I don’t see my woman, I cannot shoot content,” he said.
He later realised the danger of building his career around another person. “I’m a smart boy. God gave me brain. I know say this thing go take my life… You don’t have to attach me to anyone. Like don’t attach my glory also to someone else,” Carter stated, emphasising the need to separate his personal brand from his relationship so his success would not depend on whether he remained with his partner.
The content creator also described the emotional toll of producing the videos. According to him, filming often involved intense arguments and tears. “Do you know how many times I’ll cry before we shoot? We’ll fight, fight, fight before we start content… I was tired because behind scene is crazy. Your mental health is going.”
Despite the private struggles, the finished videos typically attracted thousands of positive comments praising their “love.” Carter noted that even when the couple was quarrelling, some fans still demanded joint appearances. He ultimately decided he could not continue the arrangement indefinitely, saying, “Is that what we want to do for years? No, you can’t deceive people for years.”
