Socialite and nightlife entrepreneur, Cubana Chief Priest, has defended his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, questioning what he described as the logic of ethnic loyalty in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, the businessman argued that national interest should take precedence over tribal considerations, urging Nigerians to think beyond ethnic affiliations in determining their political choices.
‘We Can Only Be Nigerians to Prosper’
Responding to critics who accused him of betraying his Igbo roots by backing Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest countered with a rhetorical question: “If as an Igbo man supporting Tinubu is a betrayal, what is a Yoruba man supporting Obi?”
He maintained that unity, rather than tribal sentiment, is key to national progress.
“We can only be Nigerians for us to prosper in Nigeria,” he wrote, stressing that aligning with structured leadership would provide long-term benefits.
Reference to Buhari Alliance
The socialite praised Tinubu’s political strategy, recalling how the president supported Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, before eventually clinching the presidency after eight years.
“For Tinubu to become president, he motioned to Buhari… and waited for eight years,” he wrote, referencing the now-famous “Emilokan” slogan associated with Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
He further advised supporters to “follow who know road” and align with leaders who possess political structure and experience, arguing that protests and confrontational approaches had not yielded desired results in the past.
Campaign Mobilisation
Cubana Chief Priest’s remarks follow his earlier post showing Igbo businessmen donating campaign buses to support Tinubu’s re-election effort. He stated that the move was aimed at boosting the president’s popularity in the South-East.
His comments have since sparked fresh debate online about ethnicity, political strategy and the dynamics ahead of the 2027 general election.
