Despite being a prominent figure’s offspring, the young man, who relies on a wheelchair for mobility, was denied access to the lounge area of a popular fast food restaurant, KFC, located inside the departure hall of MM International in Lagos.

The incident, which unfolded at a KFC outlet when he was on his way out of the country with his siblings and wife, revealed the systemic barriers encountered by people with disabilities in Nigeria. “I have never been the type of person to make a fuss or complain about my disability,” he expressed. “But to be disabled in Nigeria is to be undesirable, unwelcome, and unaccepted. It’s a lonely, scary, and isolated place.”
