Nigerian comedian, actor, and Nollywood figure Julius Agwu has spoken candidly about the long-term effects of brain surgery he underwent in the United States in 2015, including significant impacts on his physical health, personal life, and career.
Agwu shared the details during a recent episode of the Beer Parlour Talk Show, uploaded on Saturday. The discussion turned to how the procedure affected various aspects of his body. He disclosed that the surgery left him with ongoing challenges related to sexual function.
Fellow guests, including Mr Patrick, joined the conversation to discuss the possible connection between nerve involvement in the brain procedure and the symptoms Agwu described.
The surgery followed the discovery of three tumours in Agwu’s brain, one of which was reported to be the size of a golf ball. He has previously discussed his health battle publicly and how it disrupted his life and professional trajectory.
Later in the episode, Agwu reflected on his contributions to Nigerian comedy, particularly his pioneering role in music comedy. “Music comedy na me form am o, that is to tell you how my brain dey work,” he said.
Overcome with emotion, he broke into tears while speaking about feelings of betrayal and abandonment by friends. “God wey I dey serve, anybody wey get hand for wetin happen to me. I go dey look. My friends deserted me. They stopped talking to me, many of them. It is well,” Agwu stated.
Despite the challenges, Agwu remains a notable presence in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, recognised for blending music and comedy in his performances and for his work in film.
