Global pop icon Shakira is set to make a high-profile return to football’s biggest stage after unveiling the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The singer on Thursday announced the new track, titled Dai Dai, through a teaser video shared on Instagram from the famous Maracanã Stadium. The song is scheduled for release on May 14 and features Nigerian Grammy-winning star Burna Boy.
The announcement has sparked excitement among football and music fans worldwide, with many recalling Shakira’s strong legacy with FIFA tournament songs. Her 2010 hit, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), became one of the most successful World Cup anthems ever released.
She later returned for the 2014 tournament with La La La (Brazil 2014), which she performed during the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. Earlier, she also delivered a performance of Hips Don’t Lie at the closing ceremony of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Berlin.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by United States, Mexico and Canada, will be the first edition of the competition to feature 48 teams. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Adding a personal touch to the project, Shakira’s home country, Colombia, is among the nations expected to compete in the expanded tournament.
