‘Not Weakness or Fear’ — Fubara Pulls Out of Rivers Governorship Race

Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, declaring that his decision was a personal sacrifice aimed at preserving peace, unity and stability in the oil-rich state.

In a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday, the Rivers governor said his withdrawal from the race should not be interpreted as an act of weakness, fear or political surrender, insisting that the overriding interest of Rivers State must come before personal ambition.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State governorship election not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” Fubara stated.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State until the expiration of his tenure, maintaining that stability and harmony remain critical to the progress of the state amid heightened political tensions and ongoing alignments within the APC.

Fubara’s withdrawal is expected to significantly alter the political calculations ahead of the governorship contest in Rivers State, where recent developments have intensified speculations over shifting alliances and power blocs within the state’s political structure.
