Insecurity: Five police officers feared dead as UGM raze divisional headquarters in Enugu

Unknown gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, attacked the Iwollo Police Division in the Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State and razed the station with five officers feared dead.

Mohammed Aliyu, the State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the attack, NAN reports.

Aliyu, who could not give details of the incident was quoted to have said he was already on the ground to ascertain the level of destruction and casualties.

“More information will be pushed out to the public as soon as we conclude our preliminary investigation,” he said.

However, a witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained that the hoodlums attacked the division in the wee hours of the day.

The witness added that the attack threw the entire Iwollo community into panic throughout the night.

“They succeeded in completely razing down the buildings in the divisional station,” the witness said. “The hoodlums might have also killed probably five gallant police personnel that confronted them when they attacked.”

On April 21, unknown gunmen shot two police operatives dead during an attack on Adani police station in the Uzo-Uwani local government area.

Newsheadline247 understands the station was also set ablaze.
