Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has declared that identifying as gay or queer is incompatible with the Christian faith, urging the Church to reject cultural compromise and return to what she called the clear teachings of Scripture.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Olayode expressed concern that teachings contradicting the Bible are spreading among adults, teenagers, and children. “We cannot afford to remain silent while teachings that contradict the Word of God continue to spread,” she wrote. She called on the Church to “wake up, return to the Scriptures, teach the truth, live by the Word, and stop compromising.”
The actress argued that personal desires should not override biblical authority. “This is not about hate or about judging people,” she clarified. “I do not hate people who identify as gay, homosexual, queer, etc. I do not believe they deserve to die, and I do not wish evil upon them because of the sexuality they’ve chosen. Every human being deserves to be treated with love.”
However, she maintained that love does not require agreement with lifestyles she believes contradict Scripture. “Loving someone does not mean I must agree with their beliefs or lifestyle, especially when they are against the truth of Scripture. I love you enough to tell you the truth.”
Olayode cited Genesis 1:27, which states that God created humans “male and female,” and Matthew 19:4-6, where Jesus affirms God’s design for marriage between a man and a woman. “As Christians, we believe God is our Creator, and we live by His words. Therefore, our desires do not become the final authority. God’s Word is our authority,” she concluded.
Her comments have reignited conversations around faith, sexuality, and the role of the Church in contemporary culture.
