Chief Ernest Shonekan, a former Nigerian leader who headed the interim national government that succeeded the junta of General Ibrahim Babangida, has been reportedly dead.

Shonekan died at Evercare hospital, in the Lekki area of Lagos state, at the age of 85, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Shonekan was the head of the Nigerian government in interim capacity between August 26 and November 17, 1993, before he was removed from office in a coup led by the late military dictator, General Sani Abacha. Details later…
