The party risks losing the mandate to the opposition if Adebule contests

The Badagry Division Alliance for Ideal Democracy (BDAID) has again warned the leadership of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the dire consequence of allowing former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule to contest for the party’s ticket for Lagos West Senatorial District in the primary election slated for Saturday, 28 May, 2022.

The group warned that it would not hesitate to take the party and its leaders to court if Adebule is allowed to contest because her nomination does not follow due process of the law provided by Electoral Act.

The BDAID at a media parley addressed by the duo of Ademola Akerele-Raji and Akinola Shuqurah, President and Secretary respectively, stated that documents have shown that Adebule never collected any nomination and expression of interest forms as required by the law.

“She didn’t collect forms. We have documents to prove this. Only three aspirants: Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, Dr Kayode Opeifa and Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, collected the expression forms to contest for the APC ticket in Lagos West Senatorial District, documents have shown. Only Obanikoro and Opeifa went for the screening and were cleared by the screening panel as required by law.

“Following the dictates of the law, only Obanikoro and Opeifa are legally bound to contest. If Adebule contests, the party risks losing the mandate to the opposition.

“We’re calling on the party’s leaders not to allow what happened in Zamfara state repeats itself here. Adebule is not qualified to contest. She did not collect any form nor was she screened and cleared by the screening panel,” the group said.

The BDAID leaders later displayed documents which indeed showed that Adebule did not collect forms for the primary.

The duly signed register of those who purchased the expression of interest forms in Abuja showed that Adebule did not collect the form.

For the three who collected the forms from Lagos West Senatorial District, Obanikoro’s receipt number is 6298 while his form number is 0049, and he collected the form on Wednesday, 4 May, 2022; Opeifa’s receipt number is 5391 while his form number is 0111 and he collected the form on Wednesday, 4 May, 2022; while Orelope-Adefulire’s receipt number is 5390 while her form number is 0032 and she also purchased the form on Wednesday, 4 May, 2022.

The APC guidelines for the election primary Section 15, sub-section 1 item d states that: the screening exercise is mandatory for all aspirants without exception.

Where and when was Adebule screened? Where and when did she collect or purchase her forms? The die is cast.
