Massive Turnout as Lagos Island APC Ramps Up LG Election Campaign – Oyekan Vows to Deepen Community Development
The Lagos Island chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified its local government election campaign on Friday, July 4, 2025, with a massive rally hosted by the Oko Faji and Olowogbowo political zones. The event, held at Oluwole Car Park on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos, witnessed a vibrant turnout of party faithful, supporters, and community leaders.
The rally was a show of strength as the APC mobilized its grassroots structures ahead of the July 12 council polls. Party leaders used the opportunity to reiterate their commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of Lagos Island residents.
Speaking at the event, the Lagos Island APC Chairman, Alhaji Ganiu Sadiq, announced a mandatory training program for all polling unit agents scheduled for Saturday, July 5. Agents from Wards A1–A4 and B1 will participate in a 10:00 a.m. session, while those from Wards B2–B3 and C1–C3 are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. session. Both training events will be held at the Isale-Eko Area Council Office on Adeniji Adele Road.
Sadiq emphasized the importance of attendance and warned that any absentee agent or canvasser would be replaced. “This is a crucial step to ensure preparedness and accountability,” he said. “All ward chairmen must be present to provide oversight.”
He also informed the gathering of the upcoming Lagos Central APC mega rally on Tuesday, July 8, at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan. He tasked Lagos Island councillors and ward leaders to mobilize at least 100 members each to guarantee a commanding presence.
“Door-to-door mobilization must be intensified. We must carry along our artisans, CDAs, market associations and everyone at the grassroots to consolidate our dominance,” he said.
Director-General of the Lagos Island APC Campaign Committee, Hon. Shakiru Giwa, expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the polls, urging residents to support all APC candidates.
Former Lagos State House of Assembly member and Oko Faji political stalwart, Hon. Wasiu Ogunlana, described the rally as a “clear indication that Lagos Island is APC stronghold.” He added: “Let’s send a message on July 12 that we are united and unshakable.”
Chairmanship aspirants including Hon. Rosul Eshilokun, Hon. Yusuf Olayigbade, and Hon. Biodun Coker also drummed support for the party’s flagbearer, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan. “The youth you’ve all called for is here. Let us back him with our votes,” they urged.
APC Women Leader, Alhaja Iyabo Eletu, rallied women in Isale-Eko, Olowogbowo, and Oko Faji to turn out in full support for Oyekan and all APC councillorship candidates.
Addressing the excited crowd, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan, the APC candidate for Lagos Island Chairman, thanked supporters and party leaders for their unwavering encouragement.
“I am here to serve, and I pledge to do even more for our communities when elected. Our agenda is clear—community development, youth empowerment, and improved quality of life,” he declared.
