He has done it again! Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal popularly known as K1 has yet again and expectedly lived to his traditional title as the Mayegun of Yorubaland when he settled the feud between two warring Lagos monarchs following protracted irreconcilable differences.

On January 13, 2020, K1 was deservedly bestowed the title of Mayegun of Yorubaland by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

The title, ”Mayegun” translates to ”make life interesting and peaceful” –  and no doubt, this fuji music legend has since embodied the revered title following chains of selfless contributions to the peaceful coexistence among the Yorubas and as well as other tribes across Nigeria.

This, he demonstrated once again on Friday at the 15th year coronation anniversary of His royal majesty, Ashimiyu Atanda Adebowale, the Elegbe of Egbe Kingdom, in the Alimosho local government area of Lagos State.

At the well-attended event, the Mayegun of Yorubaland ended the cold war between the Onishasha of Shasha, Oba Babatunde Ogunrombi, and his counterpart, the Elegbeda of Egedaland, Oba Jimoh Orelope Laka.

It was gathered that both Lagos royal fathers have been in a prolonged bitter dispute and were not ready to sheath swords. “No one has been able to settle the fight between the two Obas as all efforts by prominent individuals from both towns to resolve the rift yield no positive result,” a source informed.

But K1 did. He settled the matter effortlessly and in humility when he prostrated on his stage and right in the presence of thousands of guests at the colourful coronation ceremony pleading to the quarrelling monarchs to eschew dispute and embrace peace.

The Onishasha and Elegbeda eventually accepted Mayegun’s plea as they both embraced each other to end the fight to the admiration of other monarchs and guests at the event.
