Dangote Assures Stable Petrol Prices Amid Rising Crude Oil Costs

Lagos, Nigeria – May 19, 2025 – Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has pledged to maintain stable petrol prices for Nigerian consumers despite the recent surge in global crude oil prices.

The company announced that it has consistently reduced the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ease the financial burden on Nigerians.

In a statement released by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote emphasized its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economy by ensuring price stability for petroleum products.

The refinery attributed its ability to keep prices affordable to its operational efficiency and alignment with the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” policy, which encourages the prioritization of locally produced goods and services.

“Dangote’s decision to maintain price stability reflects our dedication to providing high-quality petroleum products while contributing to Nigeria’s energy security and economic resilience,” Chiejina said.

The company highlighted its role in refining petroleum products at its facility, described as the world’s largest single-train refinery, which helps save foreign exchange and supports local markets.

The refinery also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the Naira-for-Crude Initiative, a policy that has enabled Dangote to lower petrol prices. This initiative aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to address economic challenges and improve the well-being of Nigerians.

Dangote reassured stakeholders, including consumers and the government, of its ongoing commitment to operational excellence and affordability. “We will continue to prioritize the national interest and ensure that Nigerians fully benefit from our local refining capacity,” the statement concluded.

The announcement comes at a time when global crude oil price fluctuations have raised concerns about potential fuel price hikes in Nigeria, making Dangote’s pledge a significant relief for consumers. Read More

2027: Underdog LarryBash Takes On Tunji Akinosi for APC Reps Ticket in Ado-Odo/Ota

LarryBash seems to be all out facing a political titan – Tunji Akinosi, a seasoned politician and a formidable force in Ogun politics

Lanre Bashorun (LarryBash)

2027: Underdog LarryBash Takes On Tunji Akinosi for APC Reps Ticket in Ado-Odo/Ota

The race for the 2027 general elections is already heating up in Ogun State, particularly in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, where a high-stakes political battle is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC), writes Lukman Omikunle.

New political entrant and Lagos-based businessman, Lanre Bashorun, popularly known as LarryBash, has declared his intention to challenge incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, for the APC ticket.

Despite being relatively unknown in Ado-Odo/Ota local political circles, LarryBash’s emergence gained momentum after his surprise installation as the Seriki of Ota by the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege. His chieftaincy title quickly endeared him to the people of Ota, laying the groundwork for his political ambitions.

Sources informed that his move into traditional leadership was a calculated step to gain grassroots influence. “It’s not just about the title,” said one insider. “LarryBash clearly has political intentions, and he’s already making moves in the palace and community.”

His team of loyalists and online warriors are actively promoting his candidacy with “Larry Bash Movement” across several social media platforms, setting the stage for a potential political upset in the constituency.

With this development, LarryBash seems to be all out facing a political titan – Tunji Akinosi, a seasoned politician and a formidable force in Ogun politics. Akinosi’s influence runs deep, and his alignment with key power players—especially in the camp of Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele—makes him a strong contender to retain his seat.

Hon. Tunji Akanni Akinosi, Member, Federal House of Representatives, 2023 Till Date

He has served as State Commissioner under two different administrations, including the recent portfolio as the Commissioner for the Ministry of Forestry in Ogun State. Akinosi is widely regarded as a strong grassroots mobilizer in the Ado-Odo/Ota political landscape. His track record and strategic alliances make him a formidable incumbent—and a difficult candidate to unseat.

Factors of Zoning and Ambitions

Taking a close look at zoning, ambitions, and political calculations, the political landscape in Ogun West, especially with the growing calls for the region to produce the next governor, adds layers of complexity to the contest. With Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) from Yewa widely tipped to contest for the governorship, the Senate seat may rotate to Ado-Odo/Ota.

Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi

This opens up a web of conflicting ambitions – Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele may pursue the Senate ticket if it returns to her Ota constituency. Chief Waliu Taiwo, a political heavyweight in Ota, is also reportedly eyeing the Senate seat, while from Ado-Odo/Igbesa, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, a three-term Reps member, is said to be positioning himself for a return to the National Assembly—this time aiming higher.

Should LarryBash win the Reps ticket, it could sideline Salako-Oyedele and Chief Taiwo’s senatorial ambitions. Conversely, if Akinosi retains his seat, Ojugbele’s chances of clinching the Senate slot could diminish.

Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, a three-term Reps member

With LarryBash representing Ota constituency and Akinosi hailing from Ado-Odo/Igbesa, the battle is as much about zonal balance as it is about personal political might. Party stakeholders will have to navigate a labyrinth of interests, alliances, and regional expectations.

Should the tables turn as predicted, will LarryBash abandon his ambition for the deputy governor, who also has a strong voice in the Olota palace, if she aims at the Senatorial seat? This question, along with many others, awaits an answer.

As 2027 approaches, the Ado-Odo/Ota political arena promises drama, intrigue, and high-stakes competition. Stay with Newsheadline247 as we bring you exclusive updates and insider details from the heart of the unfolding political chess game across the State. Read More

Let’s Convert Our Diversity To Prosperity, Says Tinubu At Pope’s Inauguration Mass In Vatican

“Nigeria remains a nation open to friendship, grounded in faith, and committed to building bridges of understanding across the world”

Let’s Convert Our Diversity To Prosperity, Says Tinubu At Pope’s Inauguration Mass In Vatican

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace the country’s diversity as a strength for national development, urging citizens to turn it into a source of prosperity rather than division.

Speaking in Rome during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, held on the sidelines of the inauguration Mass for Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Square, Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and inclusivity.

“If we use our diversity not for adversity but for prosperity, the country’s hope is stability and progress,” he said, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu was among 30 world leaders who attended the installation of Pope Leo XIV, elected as the 267th head of the Catholic Church on May 8.

During the meeting, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, thanked Tinubu for facilitating the bishops’ visit to Rome for both the burial of Pope Francis and the installation of his successor. Ugorji, who also leads the Owerri Archdiocese, commended the President’s consistent support and extended an invitation for future engagement with the bishops’ conference in Nigeria.

Other prominent church leaders in attendance included Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Abuja, Archbishop Alfred Martins of Lagos, and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of Sokoto.

In a separate engagement, President Tinubu met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State. The discussion focused on interfaith dialogue, global peace, and cooperation in a world grappling with religious and ideological divides.

“Our dialogue was marked by a spirit of fraternity and a shared vision for the future,” Tinubu wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, @officialABAT. “I expressed Nigeria’s deep appreciation for the Vatican’s longstanding goodwill and reaffirmed our commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue, tolerance and cooperation in an increasingly polarised world.”

The meeting with Cardinal Parolin reflects Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen faith-based diplomacy, especially in light of global tensions driven by ethnic and religious differences.

“Nigeria remains a nation open to friendship, grounded in faith, and committed to building bridges of understanding across the world,” Tinubu added.

The President’s visit comes as Nigeria continues to contribute to peacekeeping and religious reconciliation efforts across Africa. His presence at the Papal inauguration signals the country’s ongoing engagement with the global faith community.

Dressed in a suit and tie, President Tinubu led a delegation that included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs, Ademola Oshodi; Bayo Onanuga; and senior Nigerian Catholic clergy.

Speaking to journalists after the Mass, the President said: “This event embodies the true spirit of unity in diversity. It’s a great honour. We must continue to build on this – it’s a work in progress, for the sake of our country and the continent.”

2027: Yoruba Elder Fasoranti Backs Tinubu, OGD, Others for Re-election, Declares Unshakeable Support

Fasoranti called for the re-election of all cooperating South West lawmakers, praising their synergy with Tinubu and asserting that they must “take the race to the end together”

2027: Yoruba Elder Fasoranti Backs Tinubu, OGD, Others for Re-election, Declares Unshakeable Support

In a thunderous endorsement that could shake up the political landscape of the South West, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti (OFR), the revered 97-year-old leader of Yoruba socio-political powerhouse Afenifere, has declared his full backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and South West lawmakers — urging continuity for the sake of Nigeria’s transformation.

In a passionate two-page letter addressed directly to the President, Fasoranti hailed Tinubu’s leadership as a “quiet revolution,” applauding his bold reforms and vision for a new Nigeria built on regional development and national rebirth. He did not mince words, calling the President “Omo Yoruba Àtàtà” — a worthy and noble son of the Yoruba nation.

“We observed your quiet revolution in steering our country to the trajectory where we started from,” Fasoranti wrote. “This is the path to irreversible development… especially with the establishment of Regional Economic Development building blocs, including the South West Development Commission.”

Despite the pains of reform, Fasoranti declared Tinubu’s efforts not only necessary but historic, asserting that the Yoruba values of enterprise, leadership and integrity are alive and well under his rule. He praised Tinubu for honoring the trust Afenifere placed in him, proving that their confidence “was never misplaced.”

But the elder statesman didn’t stop there.

In a move set to reverberate across party lines, Fasoranti called for the re-election of all cooperating South West lawmakers, praising their synergy with Tinubu and asserting that they must “take the race to the end together.”

Among those in the spotlight is former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), whose alignment with Tinubu’s vision appears to have earned Fasoranti’s subtle but powerful nod for continued service.

Referencing an emotional past meeting with Tinubu, Fasoranti described it as a heart-to-heart exchange:

“A conversation between father and son; between brothers of common heritage.”

He lauded Tinubu for staying true to that bond — serving not only the Yoruba people but the entire nation with dignity.

Ending the letter with a profound blessing in Yoruba, Fasoranti wrote:

“Bola, o’ò ní té l’ójú omo aráyé, ìkó kíí kó bálá, Omo aráyé kò ní rí ìdí re. Odua a gbe wa o.”
(Translation: “Bola, you will not be put to shame, no burden will disgrace you, and people will not see your downfall. May Odua continue to protect us.”)

This stirring endorsement from a titan of Yoruba politics doesn’t just affirm President Tinubu’s place in the hearts of his people — it sends a clear message ahead of the next political cycle: the South West is doubling down on its son. Read More

Gateway Games 2025: PDP Slams Abiodun Over “Marginalization” of Ogun West, Ijebu Zone in Sports Festival

This deliberate omission by the APC-led administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun not only reeks of regional bias, but further deepens the lines of marginalization, division, and inequality

Gateway Games 2025: PDP Slams Abiodun Over “Marginalization” of Ogun West, Ijebu Zone in Sports Festival

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced strong disapproval over what it describes as the deliberate exclusion of the Ogun West Senatorial District from hosting any part of the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival, the Gateway Games 2025. The party also expressed councern over the minimal involvement of the Ijebu axis within the Ogun East Senatorial District.

In a statement titled Ogun PDP Blasts Governor Dapo Abiodun Over Exclusion of Ogun West and Ijebu Zones and made available to newsheadline247, the State PDP Chairman, Chief Abayomi Tella, condemned the development, stating, “This deliberate omission by the APC-led administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun not only reeks of regional bias, but further deepens the lines of marginalization, division, and inequality in a state that ought to thrive on unity and inclusiveness.”

Tella lamented that not a single event has been slated for any of the five local government areas in Ogun West. “It is both shocking and unacceptable that no event is scheduled to take place in any of the five local government areas of Ogun West — Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa South, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Imeko-Afon while only hockey is billed to be hosted in the entire Ijebuland, which constitutes a major part of Ogun East Senatorial District. This is despite the fact that existing facilities such as the Ilaro Stadium and Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode are readily available and were productively utilized in past editions of the Games.”

He went on to highlight a more inclusive precedent set by a previous administration, stating, “We recall with pride the inclusive model adopted by the PDP government of His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, during the 2006 Gateway Games, where all zones of the state (including Ogun West and Ijebu) were fully represented as hosts, ensuring a genuine sense of belonging across the state.”

Criticizing the current administration, Tella added, “Today, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, we are witnessing a troubling regression where only Abeokuta and his native Remo axis are the sole beneficiaries of massive infrastructure upgrades and state-funded sports investments, while entire regions with strong sporting heritage are treated as afterthoughts.”

The PDP further questioned the state government’s rationale behind the selection of venues and called for accountability, asking:

“Why are Ogun West and Ijebu zones deliberately sidelined?
Why are existing stadiums in Ilaro and Ijebu-Ode ignored despite their suitability?
Why does the Abiodun administration persist in prioritizing one zone at the expense of others?”

Highlighting the disparities in infrastructure funding, Tella noted, “It is on record that millions of naira has already been disbursed to sports associations, and extensive infrastructural developments are ongoing at the MKO Abiola Stadium and other venues in Abeokuta. Yet, nothing has been earmarked for facilities in Ogun West or the Ijebu axis, a move that grossly undermines the ideals of fairness and balanced development.”

He also called out the silence from key figures in the affected areas, stating, “Even more troubling is the silence of political leaders, traditional rulers, and community influencers from these affected regions. The PDP challenges them to speak up now, not as partisans, but as defenders of the dignity and interests of their people.”

Reaffirming the party’s stance, he declared, “Let it be clear: The Gateway Games should be a symbol of unity, not a tool for political exclusion. Any attempt to reduce it to a parochial affair serves neither the youth nor the future of Ogun State.”

He concluded with a call to political awareness ahead of the next elections: “As we look ahead to the 2027 general elections, the people of Ogun West and Ijebu must take note of who stands with them in moments of injustice – and who stands aside.”

“The PDP remains unwavering in its commitment to building a truly inclusive Ogun State – one where governance is anchored on justice, equity, and respect for all regions.
The people of Ogun West and the Ijebu zone deserve more – and they will not be silent.” Read More

U.S. Court Seizes Property, $96,000 From Nigerian Monarch Over $4.2 Million COVID Fraud

Oba Joseph Olugbenga Oloyede, the traditional ruler of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Nigeria, has forfeited a residential property and over $96,000 to the United States government after pleading guilty to a multi-million-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud scheme.

The 62-year-old monarch, who also holds American citizenship, admitted to defrauding the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) of pandemic relief funds totalling $4.2 million. He was indicted in April 2024 alongside Nigerian-American pastor Edward Oluwasanmi.

On May 5, 2025, Judge Christopher Boyko of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio issued a Preliminary Order of Forfeiture, authorizing the seizure of assets linked to the fraud.

Included in the forfeiture are; a residential property in Medina County, Ohio, purchased in May 2021 under his wife’s name and a JP Morgan Chase account containing $96,006.89 held in the name “Joseph Oloyede and Associates Ltd.”

Though the property was legally owned by his wife, Sherri Oloyede, both she and the monarch waived their right to challenge the forfeiture as part of the plea agreement.

Oloyede pleaded guilty on April 24, 2025, to 13 counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and defrauding a federal program. He also waived his right to appeal in exchange for a reduced sentence.

The monarch now awaits sentencing, which could include a substantial prison term under U.S. federal sentencing guidelines.

The conviction is expected to have serious ramifications for his traditional role in Nigeria, with legal, ethical, and cultural fallout likely to follow. Read More

FAAC Disburses Record N1.68 Trillion to FG, States, and LGAs for April 2025

April’s gross statutory revenue rose significantly to N2.084 trillion, an increase of N365.6 billion from the N1.718 trillion recorded in March

FAAC Disburses Record N1.68 Trillion to FG, States, and LGAs for April 2025

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed a total of N1.681 trillion to the three tiers of government as revenue allocation for April 2025, the Ministry of Finance confirmed on Friday.

The announcement followed FAAC’s monthly meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, where the committee revealed that the disbursed amount was drawn from a gross revenue of N2.848 trillion.

According to the breakdown, the Federal Government received N565.31 billion, state governments got N556.74 billion, and local government councils were allocated N406.63 billion. Additionally, oil-producing states received N152.55 billion as 13% derivation from mineral revenue.

The communique issued after the meeting noted that revenue sources included statutory revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), and exchange rate gains.

Stronger Revenue Performance in April

April’s gross statutory revenue rose significantly to N2.084 trillion, an increase of N365.6 billion from the N1.718 trillion recorded in March.

From this amount, N73.74 billion was deducted for cost of collection and N1.047 trillion was used for various transfers, interventions, and refunds, leaving N962.88 billion for distribution among the three tiers of government.

From that statutory revenue:

FG received N431.31 billion
States: N218.77 billion
LGAs: N168.66 billion
Derivation (13% to oil-producing states): N144.15 billion
VAT, EMTL and Exchange Gains Also Boost Allocations

The report also showed that VAT revenue for April was N642.27 billion, slightly up from N637.62 billion in March. After deductions for collection and refunds, N598.08 billion was distributed:

FG: N89.71 billion
States: N299.04 billion
LGAs: N209.33 billion

For the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), N38.86 billion was disbursed out of a total N40.48 billion collected. Similarly, exchange rate gains contributed N81.41 billion, distributed across the tiers of government, including oil-producing states.

Minister Highlights Need for Revenue Reform

Speaking at the session, Minister Edun emphasized that domestic revenue mobilisation remains central to Nigeria’s sustainable development strategy. He commended FAAC members for their diligence in ensuring timely and transparent revenue allocation.

Despite the gains in most revenue sources, the committee noted a decline in Company Income Tax (CIT) compared to previous months. Read More

Ogun 2027: Loyalists Position Dimeji Bankole as Ogun Central’s Best Bet for Governorship

The push comes amid growing debate over regional rotation of the governorship in Ogun State

Ogun 2027: Loyalists Position Dimeji Bankole as Ogun Central’s Best Bet for Governorship

Supporters of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, are ramping up efforts to project him as the ideal candidate to lead Ogun State in 2027—framing his candidacy as the region’s strongest shot at reclaiming the governorship for Ogun Central.

Though Bankole has kept a low public profile in recent months, his loyalists are quietly reenergizing his political brand, arguing that his blend of experience, legacy, and cross-party appeal makes him the most “sellable” candidate from Ogun Central.

The push comes amid growing debate over regional rotation of the governorship in Ogun State. Since its creation in 1976, Ogun West—home to gubernatorial frontrunner Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi)—has never produced a governor. Yayi, the current Senator for Ogun West, is championing the long-awaited Yewa agenda.

Solomon Adeola Yayi

But some stakeholders in Ogun Central argue that with Governor Dapo Abiodun (from Ogun East) completing his term in 2027, the natural rotation should return power to the Central zone, which last held it under Ibikunle Amosun (2011–2019).

Why Bankole?

Supporters of Bankole say he fits the bill: a politically grounded figure with national recognition and deep local roots. A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bankole also contested the Ogun governorship in 2019 under the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—just like his would-be rival, Yayi.

Backing their claims, sources close to party insiders suggest that decision-makers are seeking a candidate with broad marketability and a ready-made political structure—qualities they argue Bankole uniquely possesses.

“The belief is that if Ogun Central wants a serious shot at the seat, they need someone with name recognition, legislative experience, and legacy. Bankole checks all the boxes,” said one insider.

Dimeji Bankole’s political pedigree is further amplified by his father, Chief Alani Bankole, a respected businessman and political heavyweight. The elder Bankole held leadership positions in the now-defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and was a multiple-time gubernatorial contender in Ogun.

This family legacy is seen as a strategic advantage for consolidating grassroots support and elite political backing.

Unlike Senator Adeola, who has openly made moves toward the 2027 race, Bankole has yet to formally declare his ambition. But insiders suggest that this may be part of a deliberate, under-the-radar strategy to build momentum while avoiding early political headwinds.

In the coming months, the battle for party tickets and zonal consensus is expected to intensify—and loyalists believe Bankole may emerge as the consensus candidate capable of uniting interests across factions in Ogun Central and beyond. Read More
