Nestlé Nigeria Posts ₦105 Billion Profit in 2025, Reverses Losses with Revenue Jump to ₦1.2 Trillion

Nestlé Nigeria rebounds to ₦105 billion net profit in 2025 from ₦164.6 billion loss in 2024, driven by stable naira exchange rate

Nestlé Nigeria Roars Back to Profit: Nets ₦105bn in 2025 After Two Years of Losses

After enduring two consecutive years of heavy losses that plunged shareholder funds into negative territory, Nestlé Nigeria has staged a remarkable comeback, posting a net profit of ₦105 billion for the full year 2025—marking a dramatic reversal from the ₦164.6 billion post-tax loss recorded in 2024.

The audited financial statements, released on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, credit the turnaround largely to a far more stable dollar-to-naira exchange rate throughout 2025. The naira opened the year at around ₦1,500 to the dollar and closed at ₦1,429, providing much-needed predictability for the import-reliant food giant after sharp devaluations in prior years eroded value by roughly 70%.

This stability wiped out the massive foreign currency translation loss that had ballooned to ₦290.7 billion in 2024—dropping it to zero in 2025—and slashed net finance costs by an impressive 85%. The result: profit before tax soared to ₦166.8 billion, compared to a pre-tax loss of ₦221.6 billion the previous year.

Revenue climbed 26% to ₦1.2 trillion, fueled by stronger domestic sales of iconic brands like Milo, Maggi, Golden Morn, and Nescafé. Export volumes to markets including Ghana, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and South Africa surged 55.9%, adding ₦10.2 billion to the top line.

The company has also accelerated its shift toward local sourcing of key raw materials such as sorghum, cassava, soya beans, and spices—strategies that helped cushion the impact of earlier forex volatility.

CEO Wassim Elhussein highlighted the positive ripple effects on the balance sheet. “This improved performance has positively impacted on our equity position. With the results achieved in 2025, negative retained earnings from the previous period reduced by 53.6% from ₦243.2 billion in 2024 to ₦112.8 billion in 2025,” he said in a statement.

Looking forward with optimism, Elhussein added: “In the year ahead, we will keep driving cost efficiencies to support our growth in what we expect will be a more stable economic environment.”

Total assets dipped slightly by 1.5% to ₦846.2 billion, reflecting reductions in prepayments and property, plant, and equipment. Despite this, the overall equity position strengthened significantly, with some reports indicating a return to positive total equity around ₦12.9 billion—bolstered by early repayment of $40 million in forex-denominated debt.

The results signal a solid recovery for Nestlé Nigeria, one of Africa’s largest food and beverage players, as it rebuilds momentum in a gradually stabilizing macroeconomic landscape. Investors will be watching closely to see if sustained profitability paves the way for a resumption of dividend payments in the near future.

Her goodwill message adds to the growing chorus of community leaders in Ado-Odo/Ota and across Ogun State who are using the Ramadan season to promote unity, compassion, and spiritual renewal.

Acting IGP Tunji Disu Assumes Office, Promises Modern Policing and Officer Welfare After Egbetokun’s Exit

Tunji Disu, 59, has taken over as acting IGP following Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation. Decorated by President Tinubu

Tunji Disu Takes Charge as Acting IGP: Vows Professional, Accountable Policing for Nigeria

Nigeria’s police force has a new leader at the helm. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu formally assumed office as acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) during a handover ceremony at the Force Headquarters in Abuja’s Louis Edet House.

The transition followed President Bola Tinubu’s decoration of Disu earlier that day at the Presidential Villa, just 24 hours after appointing the 59-year-old Lagos-born officer to replace Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned citing pressing family considerations.

In his first address as acting IGP, Disu—formerly head of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and most recently in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos—laid out a clear vision centered on three pillars. “My tenure will be built on three clear commitments: professionalism, modernism, and accountability,” he declared before a gathering of senior officers, family members, and staff.

He made a direct appeal to the rank-and-file across the country. “To all officers, I will demand the best from you because the people we serve deserve nothing less. Integrity, compassion, courage—these are not optional qualities; they are the job. But I make this promise in return: I will fight for your welfare, your dignity, and the conditions you need to serve effectively. You will not be asked to perform miracles with nothing,” Disu said firmly.

Emphasizing visible and credible leadership, he added: “Leadership in this service from this day forward must be visible, accountable, and worthy of being followed.”

Brushing aside the wave of congratulatory messages that followed his surprise appointment, Disu stressed action over ceremony. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is not the end of a ceremony. This is the beginning of the work,” he said, thanking President Tinubu for the trust placed in him.

Outgoing IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who handed over the reins, expressed confidence in his successor and urged continuity. “As I hand over to my successor—one chosen among the best—I do so with confidence in his competence, experience, and strategic capacity. The foundation has been reinforced; the system recapitulated; the reform trajectory clearly defined,” Egbetokun stated.

He charged Disu to build on recent gains, including stronger inter-agency collaboration, enhanced accountability, improved officer welfare through timely promotions, insurance, housing, and training, and targeted operations that disrupted kidnapping and criminal networks. “Public trust cannot be commanded by authority; it must be earned through integrity, transparency, and measurable results,” Egbetokun remarked. “In progress must not pause; it must accelerate.”

At the decoration ceremony, President Tinubu voiced strong backing for Disu, drawing on his track record during Tinubu’s time as Lagos governor. “I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record. I saw the dedication you exhibited while you were in Lagos when I was governor. Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level, and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority,” Tinubu told him.

The president further urged innovation amid Nigeria’s security challenges. “Nigeria is challenged with banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. You will be part of the thinking and innovation to overcome them,” he said, according to a statement by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Born April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Disu enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. His career spans roles as Divisional Police Officer in multiple states, head of the Intelligence Response Team (previously led by Abba Kyari), Commissioner of Police in Rivers and FCT, and AIG promotion last year. A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Disu now steps into one of Nigeria’s most demanding security roles with a mandate to modernize and restore public confidence in policing. Alaafin Hails Disu’s Appointment as Acting IGP, Urges Human Rights Reforms in Police
The Abimbola Owoade, has congratulated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, describing his rise through the ranks as a testament to dedication, patriotism and strategic leadership.

In a congratulatory message issued through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, the monarch said Disu’s elevation reflects his professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment to national service.

Oba Owoade noted that as the Acting IGP assumes leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, he inherits both its institutional goodwill and its operational challenges — responsibilities he said would significantly influence public confidence, internal security and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

Expressing confidence in Disu’s capacity to excel, the Alaafin urged him to embrace professionalism and deliver the reforms Nigerians have long demanded.

“As you settle down, I urge you to be professional and write your name in gold by giving us the new police that Nigerians are craving for — a police that will gain the trust of society,” the monarch said.

He described Disu’s career as “a shining beacon of courage and resilience,” adding that the new role is a call to service for which he is exceptionally prepared.

“It is expected that your leadership will bridge the gap between the Police and the community, fostering a safer, more secure and citizen-friendly environment,” he added.

The royal father further charged the Acting IGP to prioritise the protection of innocent citizens and uphold the rule of law, expressing optimism that his strategic vision would usher the force into a new era of proactive policing, enhanced security and restored public trust.

Oba Owoade stressed that safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens is key to encouraging crime reporting and strengthening justice delivery. To this end, he called for the establishment of functional human rights desks in all police stations, area commands and zonal headquarters nationwide, staffed by qualified personnel to address cases of abuse.

The monarch also congratulated former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commending what he described as his decades of distinguished service and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

As Disu takes the helm, expectations remain high that his leadership will recalibrate policing standards and rebuild public trust in the force.

Senate Passes Gbenga Daniel’s Bill to Establish Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode

Senate Passes Bill to Establish Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode

The Nigerian Senate has passed the Bill for an Act to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act, 2022, to provide for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The proposed legislation, titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centres Act, 2022 to Provide for the Establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State; and for Related Matters, 2024 (SB. 514)”, was sponsored by Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District.

With its passage at the Red Chamber, the bill has now been forwarded to the House of Representatives for concurrence, marking a significant legislative milestone.

If approved by the House and subsequently assented to by the President, the Federal Medical Centre, Ijebu Ode, would become a critical addition to Nigeria’s tertiary healthcare infrastructure.

Stakeholders say the development would significantly enhance access to advanced medical services for residents of Ogun East and adjoining communities, while also reducing pressure on existing federal health institutions.

Observers describe the Senate’s approval as a forward-looking intervention aimed at addressing persistent gaps in specialist and referral healthcare services within the region.

Senator Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun State, has consistently advocated for infrastructural and human capital development within his district.

The successful passage of SB. 514 in the Senate underscores what supporters describe as his “foresight and tenacity” in advancing policies targeted at improving the wellbeing of his constituents.

“This is going to be a very good development once the parliamentary procedure is concluded,” stakeholders noted, expressing appreciation for the senator’s sustained efforts.

Under Nigeria’s legislative process, the bill must secure concurrence from the House of Representatives before being transmitted to the President for assent.

Should it scale through the remaining stages, the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode would represent a landmark healthcare expansion for Ogun State.

For residents of Ijebu Ode and surrounding areas, the Senate’s decision signals renewed hope for improved medical access, employment opportunities within the health sector, and broader regional development.

As the bill advances through the National Assembly, attention now turns to the House of Representatives for the next decisive step.

El-Rufai Begs Court to Stop ICPC, EFCC, SSS From Freezing His Bank Accounts and Assets

El-Rufai Begs Court to Stop ICPC, EFCC, SSS From Freezing His Bank Accounts and Assets

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to bar the anti-corruption and security agencies from taking steps to freeze his bank accounts or seize his property.

El-Rufai, in a fresh suit filed by his lawyer, Oluwole Iyamu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), urged the court to issue an order of interim injunction directing the respondents to maintain “the status quo ante” pending the hearing and determination of the application and his main suit.

The respondents are the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the State Security Service (SSS), which are either investigating or already prosecuting him.

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) is also a co-defendant.

El-Rufai urged the court to issue the restraining order against the agencies to prevent a fait accompli.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former governor, detained by the ICPC for the past one week, filed the suit through his lawyer on 24 February (Tuesday).

El-Rufai has faced intense enforcement actions from anti-corruption and security agencies since his return to Abuja on 12 February from a trip to Cairo, Egypt. Security agents reportedly attempted to arrest him on his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

On Monday, 16 February, the EFCC detained him at its headquarters in Abuja after he honoured an invitation for questioning regarding corruption allegations linked to his tenure as Kaduna State governor between 2015 and 2023.

Two days later, on Wednesday, 18 February, ICPC agents arrested him immediately after the EFCC released him on bail.

While in custody, the SSS filed charges of illegally intercepting National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s phone call.

The charges followed El-Rufai’s claim in an interview on an Arise Television programme that he, with someone, tapped Mr Ribadu’s phone call to listen to him directing security operatives to detain him. He linked the alleged directive to his attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on 12 February after his return from Egypt.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday. However, the arraignment could not take place as planned because the ICPC, which held him in custody, did not produce him.

Judge Joyce Abdulmalik then rescheduled the arraignment for 23 April.

El-Rufai has submitted different filings in court in response to the security agencies’ actions and possible plans against him.

In his suit filed on 24 February seeking to block asset seizure or account freezing by the agencies, Mr. El-Rufai prayed for, among other things, a declaration that his severance pay, received upon completing his tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023, cannot reasonably be suspected to be proceeds of any unlawful activity.

El-Rufai, who turned into a fierce critic of President Bola Tinubu after they fell out in 2023 when his nomination to serve as a minister by the president fell through, also sought a declaration that the properties he purchased from his said severance pay were lawfully acquired and owned by him.

He listed the banks to include Zenith Bank Naira Account Number 1007158671; Zenith Bank Domiciliary Account Number 507 1511327; Guaranty Trust Bank Account Number: 0023824978; Access Bank dollar account number 1396386493 and Access Bank naira account number 1396382103.

He also sought a declaration that any attempt or plan by the respondents or their agents to apply for, obtain or execute any interim or final forfeiture order, freezing order, seizure order, or any other order depriving him of his property and/or bank accounts, without first establishing a reasonable suspicion supported by credible evidence as required by relevant law would amount to a breach of his rights.

He cited the law as Section 17(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006 and the Supreme Court decision in Melrose General Services Ltd v. EFCC (2024) SC/1519/2019.

El-Rufai prayed the court to declare that, as a citizen of Nigeria, he is entitled to the presumption of innocence and the protection of his fundamental rights.

He said that any action by the respondents that seeks to circumvent these rights by way of ex-parte applications that conceal material facts would amount to a breach of Section 36(5) of the constitution and a violation of the principles of fair hearing.

The ex-governor, therefore, sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents from taking any step whatsoever to freeze, attach, seize, forfeit, or otherwise interfere with his said property and bank accounts.

He sought an order awarding the sum of N1 billion “as general, exemplary, and aggravated damages against the respondents jointly and severally for:

“The anticipated violation of the applicant’s fundamental rights;

“The psychological trauma, distress, anxiety, and reputational harm caused by the threat of unlawful forfeiture proceedings.

“The need to deter the respondents and other agencies from engaging in similar overreach, abuse of power, and disregard for constitutional safeguards.”

He equally sought an order awarding the sum of N100 million as costs of the action against the respondents, including legal fees and associated expenses.

El-Rufai, in his grounds for the application, stated that he “is a citizen of Nigeria and a former high-ranking public officer who served as Chief Executive of Nigeria’s Federal Privatisation Agency (1999-2003), Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (2003-2007), and Governor of Kaduna State (2015-2023).”

He said he had never been convicted of any criminal offence and had repeatedly challenged anyone to come forward with evidence of wrongdoing, which challenge had gone unanswered.

He said upon the completion of his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State, he became entitled to, and received, severance pay calculated at 300 per cent of his annual basic salary pursuant to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) guidelines and the applicable laws of Kaduna State.

He specifically gave the state’s law as the Pension and Gratuity (Governor and Deputy Governor) Law 2006 (as amended in 2013 and 2020).

“This severance pay is a lawful entitlement, not proceeds of unlawful activity,” he said.

He also said he legitimately applied for his said severance pay and other lawful earnings to acquire properties and maintain bank accounts, including his accounts with Zenith Bank Plc, GTB and Access Bank Plc.

“The ICPC concluded, without regard to applicable law or documentary facts, that the severance package is unlawful,” he said.

He said the AGF (4th respondent), as the federation’s chief law officer responsible for superintending all prosecutorial and asset recovery activities of the federal government, is a necessary party to the proceedings. He said this would ensure that any court order binds the federal government as a whole.

He, therefore, stated that any intended action by the respondents would be baseless and lacking in reasonable suspicion, as the severance pay in question is a lawful entitlement and there exists no credible evidence linking his property or accounts to any unlawful activity.

He said he had no other adequate remedy to prevent the threatened violation of his rights if the respondents are not restrained now.

“The applicant has come to this court with clean hands, has nothing to hide and is ready and willing to cooperate with any lawful investigation conducted in accordance with due process,” he said.

El-Rufai has also mounted other legal pushbacks since coming under intense scrutiny from the agencies in the last two weeks.

El-Rufai had earlier filed an application for the quashing of the phone tapping charges on the grounds that they are incompetent, disclose no offence known to law, and constitute what he described as a gross abuse of court process

Similarly, El-Rufai sued the ICPC for N1 billion on 20 February over a recent reported raid on his Abuja residence by the operatives of the anti-corruption agency.

In the suit, he sued the ICPC alongside a chief magistrate of the Magistrate’s Court of the FCT, Abuja Magisterial District; the Inspector-General of Police and the AGF.

El-Rufai asked the court to declare that the search warrant issued on 4 February by the chief magistrate authorising the search of his residence at House 12, Mambilla Street, Aso Drive, Abuja, was invalid, null and void.

He contended that the warrant lacked particularity, contained material drafting errors, was ambiguous in its execution parameters, overbroad in scope, and unsupported by probable cause.

Last year, El-Rufai dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Party (ADC) , vowing to work with others to unseat Mr. Tinubu as president in the 2027 elections.

He has framed his scrutiny by the agencies as political persecution by the Tinubu administration, citing other members of the opposition ADC like the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, also having the same experience. But the EFCC, which already charged Mr Malami with money laundering involving the alleged illegitimate acquisition of assets while in public office, has always maintained that affiliation with the opposition does not confer immunity on anyone.

State Police Now Urgent, Says Bola Tinubu, Urges Senate to Amend Constitution

0

President Bola Tinubu has urged the leadership of the 10th Senate to begin the process of amending the Constitution to pave the way for the establishment of State Police, describing the move as critical to tackling Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday during an interfaith breakfast with senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

The President stressed that decentralised policing had become increasingly urgent amid persistent threats of terrorism, banditry and insurgency across the country. He argued that State Police would strengthen grassroots security structures and enable faster responses to local threats.

We are facing terrorism, banditry and insurgency. But we will never fail to make the right response,” Tinubu said. “What I will ask for tonight is for you to start thinking how best to amend the Constitution to incorporate State Police.”

According to him, the reform would also enhance efforts to secure Nigeria’s forests from criminal elements and help restore citizens’ confidence in national security.

Tinubu further commended the cordial working relationship between the executive and the National Assembly, describing it as vital to national development.

It is a good thing that we are working in harmony, looking forward to a country that protects all,” he said.

The President also expressed appreciation to lawmakers for backing his administration’s key economic reforms, noting that their collaboration made major policy shifts possible.

“Without your collaboration, those reforms would not be possible. We are reformists together,” he added.

Tinubu defended the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a necessary step that ended what he called monumental corruption and foreign exchange arbitrage. He maintained that the economy was stabilising and positioned for growth.

What we are enjoying is a stable economy, and prosperity is beckoning us. We need to work hard,” the President stated.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Tinubu for hosting the interfaith gathering and pledged continued legislative support for the administration’s reform agenda.

Akpabio said ongoing reforms had boosted revenue allocations to sub-national governments, enabling them to undertake more infrastructure projects. He also offered prayers for the President and for peace and prosperity in the country.

The call for constitutional amendment to establish State Police is expected to ignite fresh debate on restructuring Nigeria’s security architecture.
