Fact Check: Does Original Copy of Presidential Election Tribunal Judgement Have Tinubu’s Legal Team’s Watermark on It? [REPORT]

0

It is misleading to claim that the Judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal was drafted by Tinubu’s lawyers just because it had the TPLT watermark on it.

Claim: A Screenshot of the Presidential Election Tribunal’s Judgement bearing the Watermark of Tinubu’s Presidential Legal Team is circulating online claiming that the judgment was crafted by Tinubu’s Lawyers.

Full Text: The watermarked copy had been a subject of controversy especially on social media with critics alleging a sinister move.

The screenshot was accompanied by the following text, “The brilliant judgement was crafted for them. Copy and past they forgot to clean out the document title, just as they omitted 25% Abuja ”

There have been mixed reactions over the Wednesday judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The verdict of the Presidential  Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the petitions of the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Atiku, and  Labour Party Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement, challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the February 25 presidential poll and upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Some lawyers on Thursday said the judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday was full of reviews and deep explanations.

The lawyers said contrary to expectations that the court would only do a partial review of the cases before delivering judgement, the justices did a thorough analysis of the judgement.

They said the justices did a thorough job to the extent that some senior lawyers representing parties were chided for inadequacies in their research to build their clients’ cases.

Verification: An online search led PRNigeria fact checkers to a denial issued by Tinubu’s Presidential Legal Team (TPLT).

The TPLT coordinator, Babatunde Ogala, in a statement explained that they watermarked their copy of the judgment after collection from the Court of Appeal before circulating the scanned copies to members of their team.

“After the delivery of judgment in the 3 (Three) election petitions by the Court of Appeal on September 6, 2023, the Court directed its registry to make physical copies of same available on September 7, 2023.

“Accordingly, the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team applied for a Certified True Copy of the said judgment and paid the prescribed fee.

“Lawyers for PDP were present at the registry at the same time to collect the same judgment.

“In fact, the representative of the PDP collected the first copy that was made available by the registry.” The statement read in part.

With the observation that a certified through copy of the judgment without the watermarks was displayed on Arise TV Prime Time news by a TPLT Lawyer, PRNigeria fact checkers visited the official website of the Appeal Court to access an e-copy of the judgment.

An assessment of the consolidated copy of the judgment obtained on the official website of the court has no watermarks of any party on either the header or footer contrary to the copy circulating online with the TPLT watermark.

It was also observed that while the consolidated copy was duly signed and stamped by the Secretary of the Presidential Election Petition Court 2023 – JJ Ekperobe Esq dated September 8, 2023 the copy circulating online had the authourised payment stamp of the tribunal which indicates that the required fee of N10,000 was duly paid at the registry to obtain it, substantiating claims that the copy in question was actually the property of whoever had paid the given fee.

PRNigeria further used detection tools for detecting deleted items on the court’s website to ascertain if there was any previously deleted copy prior to the copy of the judgment that is now accessible on the Court’s official website.

Using Wayback Machine, a platform that captures and saves snapshots of thousands of websites regularly, currently, hosting a mind-boggling 818 billion web pages, making us believe that nothing gets deleted from the internet, PRNigeria fact checkers entered the URL of the Court but there was no old version of snapshot that suggestion anything was deleted on the page recently.

PRNigeria then cross referenced same URL with Archive Today, another website that displays all the snapshots of that website in reverse chronological order, and the results returned the same.

Conclusion: Available evidences point to the fact that the inscription generating controversy on the copy of the tribunal judgment circulating online was a ‘watermark’ the TPLT made on its own copies of the court judgment.

PRNigeria therefore concludes that the claim that the Judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal was drafted for it by Tinubu’s Lawyers because it had the TPLT watermark on it is MISLEADING.

Aso Villa Elements: Lai Mohammed knows those I’m referring to – El-Rufai spills

0

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has accused the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, of knowing the individual elements in the Villa that are working against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Recall that El-Rufai had earlier on Wednesday, alleged that some persons in the presidential Villa were working towards the failure of the party.

Responding to him, the Information Minister while addressing the state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday, noted that the Presidency is not aware of those in its fold working against the APC.

The Governor, however, on Thursday, in an interview on Arise TV, insisted that even Lai Mohammed knows the individuals he is referring to in the Villa.

He said, ”Let me restate exactly what I said. What I said was that we are convinced that there are elements in the Villa that want APC to lose the elections, I did not say the Federal government.

“I did not say Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I said APC. So I don’t understand why the Federal government is responding to what I said because the Federal government is not part of it. I referred to elements in the Villa, and with the greatest respect, even Lai Mohammed knows who I am referring to.”

Femi Gbajabiamila stranded! Why he may not recover from Alaafin’s demise

0

+ His lust for title costs him millions of naira, insiders claim

His recent travail undoubtedly offers undeniable lessons in tact, modesty, and humility. Having been severely humbled by fate, Gbajabiamila has learned that this life is indeed transient and unpredictable.

Femi Gbajabiamila must be in pain. The incumbent Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, like the desirous nomad, is stranded on the mournful plane with few landmarks and no boundaries; he is marooned where happiness’ horizons grow vague and propriety’s vistas evade the covetous grasp of the ambitious.

At the demise of his HRH Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Gbajabiamila’s heartfelt joy dimmed into a coma. Soon after Oba Adeyemi departed the path of life, into the distant privacy of the hereafter, Gbajabiamila’s dreams of clinching a chieftaincy title suffered a sudden death.

The incumbent Speaker, who was supposed to be invested with the title of thee Baasofin ti ile Yoruba (The Supreme Legislative Guide of the Yoruba), watched his dream of bagging the title extinguish at the demise of Oyo’s paramount ruler.

At the monarch’s demise, the event which was slated for Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Forecourt of the Alaafin of Oyo’s Palace can no longer hold and this has really unsettled Gbajabiamila, who had hitherto looked forward to his grand investiture as a traditional chief of Oyo Kingdom.

More worrisome was the sheer waste of the millions of naira budgeted for his investiture ceremony. Gbajabiamila is presently beside himself in misery as he rues the fortune he committed to his thwarted party. Sources close to the Speaker disclose that he is yet to recover from the rude shock of the Alaafin’s death and the monetary cost of losing such an opportunity to assert himself as a force to reckon with amid his kinsmen.

There is no gainsaying Gbajabiamila nursed grand dreams of the future. But his expectations have been thwarted by the Alaafin’s demise. The prominent monarch has embarked on a journey of no return. Having lived a long, fulfilled life, he has been led to the deep and dusty rubble beneath his throne and high tower to join his forbears.

Alaafin Adeyemi’s demise has dealt a big blow to Gbajabiamila’s chieftaincy hopes, and this has left the lawmaker distraught. Having spent good money printing the invitation cards for the event, and planning for it in a big way, the Honourable Speaker must count his losses and simply move on.

His recent travail undoubtedly offers undeniable lessons in tact, modesty, and humility. Having been severely humbled by fate, Gbajabiamila has learned that this life is indeed transient and unpredictable. He has learned never to take things for granted perhaps.

NEWS: Soyinka visits Igboho in Cotonou…”I’d always wanted to sympathise with his predicament”

He has also learned never to plan for tomorrow with a surety and temerity that borders on cockiness.

The event which has since suffered a gruesome death was supposed to feature HRH Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, as the Royal Father of the Day and Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), All Progressives Congress (APC)’s national leader and presidential aspirant, as a Special Guest of Honour, among others.

As Speaker of Nigeria’s 9th House of Representatives. Gbajabiamila was elected to the House in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He represents the Surulere I constituency of Lagos State (see Nigerian National Assembly delegation from Lagos) in the House of Representatives. He is the Speaker of the House of Representation.

It is noteworthy that Gbajabiamila was the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives in the 7th National Assembly. He was elected speaker in the 9th National Assembly, House of Representatives, with 283 votes, while his opponent Mohammed Umar Bago, came Second with 78 votes. (THE CAPITAL)

Details: 3years after ceremonial wedding, Queen Naomi Silekunola announces divorce from Ooni of Ife, explains reasons

0

Her Majesty, Queen Silekunola Naomi, has announced her divorce from the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

Queen Naomi, an Evangelist married the traditional ruler in October 2018 and they had a child, Prince Tadenikawo Ogunwusi together in November 2020.

Multiple reports said Olori Naomi has quit her role as the Queen of Ile-Ife and revealed she’s no longer the wife of the revered monarch of the Yorubaland.

A statement posted on her verified Instagram handle and Facebook page on Thursday also confirmed this.

She announced an end to the three-year marriage, according to the statement.

According to her in the statement gone viral on social media, she said she tried to make the union work but the monarch’s public identity is at variance with “his true self”.

The mother of one appreciated her son and described him as a sign of God’s knowledge of her situation, as she appealed to aggrieved persons to allow peace to reign, and respect their son.

She wrote, “I bless the Lord almighty for His faithfulness in the last 3years of my marriage. In life’s journey, it isn’t how far. Still, how well, indeed though satan should buffet if trials should come, I have this blessed assurance controlling all situations and saying to me it is well with my soul. Certainly, it is well. I made my journey into the ancient throne of Ife with faith in my heart and love for the keeper of it.”

Queen Naomi stated further in the statement that contrary to reports that the Ooni of Ife is married to another queen, she was his only wife. She further revealed that their marriage in 2018 was not arranged as some people have painted it to be.

“Few impressions I would love to correct. If anyone knows otherwise, they are free to come up with facts. Let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.

“I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.

“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him. I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up. The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece,” she said.

She said she tried hard to make the marriage work but soon realised she has only one assignment – God and her son.

“I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.”

Queen Naomi announced she’s no longer the Ooni’s wife or the Queen of Ile-Ife and will like to be known as the “Queen of the People”.

“Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift.

“I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince.”

She thanked her loved ones and prayer partners and further revealed she’s moving to a new chapter of her life.

Referring to her son, Prince Tadenikawo, Queen Naomi said: “He is God’s way of saying I know about it all. In situations like this, there will be aggrieved persons. I, at this moment, appeal to all parties involved to allow the peace of God with the consciousness that there is a lovely little boy between us. I thank all of my prayer partners and loved ones.

“I remain committed to all of my projects, charity work and ministry. In this new season, I shall be focusing on God only.”

In May 2020, Olori Naomi reacted to emerged rumours of her marriage to Ooni Ogunwusi being crashed after she was alleged to have packed out of the Ife palace over speculated unresolved marital crisis.

She then described the allegation as unfounded adding that the rumour is the handiwork of mischief peddlers who would love to see her marriage hit the rock.

The latest development may, however, be a different ball game following her famous posts on Instagram and Facebook.

2027: Delta Central Stakeholders Back Ovie Omo-Agege, Reject Alleged Plot to Sideline Him

0

Ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, political undercurrents are intensifying in Delta Central, with key stakeholders voicing strong support for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege while condemning what they describe as attempts to edge him out of the race.

In a statement issued by a political advocate from Ethiope East Local Government Area, concerns were raised over an alleged coordinated campaign aimed at silencing the former Deputy Senate President, widely regarded as one of the district’s most influential political figures.

The statement defended Omo-Agege’s track record, highlighting his contributions to infrastructure, education, and social development across Delta Central.

Among the projects cited were the establishment of tertiary institutions such as the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, as well as the Defence Space School in Orogun. These, the author argued, underscore a commitment to long-term human capital development.

In addition, the senator was credited with facilitating the provision of transformers, solar-powered streetlights, and potable water through borehole projects distributed across the district’s eight local government areas.

Supporters also pointed to investments in road construction and empowerment initiatives targeted at small businesses and women, describing his tenure as one marked by visible grassroots impact.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the statement portrayed Omo-Agege as a vocal representative who consistently advocated for his constituents at the national level, emphasizing his role in legislative debates and policy interventions.

While acknowledging the realities of political contestation, including influence from entrenched interests and power brokers, the author stressed that the people of Delta Central should retain the right to determine their political future without external interference.

The statement framed the 2027 election as a defining moment for the district, urging unity among constituents and calling for a transparent and inclusive process in selecting their next representative.

It concluded with a strong endorsement of Omo-Agege, expressing confidence that his performance and connection with the grassroots would remain central to the political conversation as the election approaches.

As political activities gradually gather momentum, Delta Central is expected to witness heightened competition, with Omo-Agege’s political trajectory likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the contest.

Tinubu Unveils NRS Headquarters, Pushes for Transparent Tax System to Drive Nigeria’s Prosperity

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for the establishment of a transparent, efficient and robust tax system in Nigeria, warning that sustainable national prosperity cannot be built on weak revenue structures.

Speaking on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja, Tinubu stressed that trust in government is impossible when taxation systems are opaque, inefficient or unfair.

He noted that his administration has undertaken sweeping fiscal reforms aimed at simplifying tax processes, eliminating distortions and creating an investment-friendly environment.

“Our direction is clear—a revenue system that rewards enterprise, supports growth and ensures citizens see value for their taxes,” the President said, adding that early outcomes from the reforms are already encouraging.

Tinubu recalled his inauguration pledge to address structural weaknesses in the economy, reaffirming his commitment to building a disciplined and equitable system. He described the commissioning of the NRS headquarters as more than a ceremonial event, calling it a milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal foundation and rebuilding public confidence in institutions.

According to the President, recent improvements in fiscal stability, foreign reserves, trade systems and investor confidence are the result of deliberate policies and sustained reforms.

He further described the new facility as a symbol of professionalism, transparency and efficiency, urging the NRS to not only focus on revenue collection but also prioritize trust, fairness and accountability in its operations.

“Government institutions must earn the confidence of the people and command respect globally,” he said.

Earlier, Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, revealed that the administration has implemented one of the most significant tax reforms in Nigeria’s history by consolidating over 60 fragmented tax laws into a unified framework.

He said the reforms have improved compliance, predictability and efficiency without increasing tax burdens, leading to a sharp rise in revenue collections—from ₦6.41 trillion in 2021 to ₦28.79 trillion in 2025.

Adedeji also disclosed that the tax net has expanded significantly, with more than 19 million taxpayers now registered, alongside the addition of about 814,000 corporate taxpayers.

He attributed the gains to improved governance, enhanced transparency, better remittance systems and key policy measures such as exchange rate unification and fuel subsidy removal.

The NRS boss added that initiatives like the National Single Window have modernised trade processes, reduced inefficiencies and strengthened revenue assurance, while energy sector reforms—including the sale of crude oil in naira—have further repositioned the economy.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, said the new headquarters represents a strategic investment in Nigeria’s fiscal future.

He explained that the transition from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service to the Nigeria Revenue Service reflects broader efforts to enhance governance, accountability and performance.

Oyedele acknowledged past challenges such as fragmented tax laws and weak coordination but noted that ongoing reforms are already improving revenue generation and laying the groundwork for long-term economic sustainability.

The newly commissioned NRS complex—comprising three towers with sixteen floors and capacity for over 3,000 staff—is expected to boost operational efficiency and service delivery.

Tinubu concluded by urging Nigerians to remain resilient and called on future leaders to sustain reform efforts, emphasizing that national progress depends on consistency, discipline and collective commitment.

Akinboyede Congratulates Solomon Adeola Yayi as Ogun APC Consensus Governorship Candidate

An Ota-born legal practitioner and political ally, Prince Abiodun Akinboyede, has congratulated Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Akinboyede, a barrister at law and a steadfast supporter of the Yayi governorship project, described the development as a significant step toward the realisation of a new Ogun State.

In a statement made available to newsheadline247, Akinboyede emphasised that while Yayi’s emergence is a major milestone, the real work lies ahead.

“The task to victory has just begun. This is the time for all Ogun State indigenes and residents to come together and rally support for Senator Yayi,” he said.

Highlighting his longstanding relationship with the senator, Akinboyede noted that he shares in Yayi’s vision of transforming Ogun into a model state for all.

“I have unwavering confidence in Senator Yayi’s vision and capacity to transform Ogun State into the dream place we all desire. He represents hope, progress, and inclusive development,” he stated.

The Ota prince further described the moment as the beginning of a historic political transformation for the state.

“Ogun State is bound for a historic political journey and transformation under the leadership of Senator Yayi. This is a defining moment for our collective future,” he added.

Akinboyede also applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the APC in Ogun State for what he called a courageous and strategic decision.

“Our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the party leadership deserve commendation for this bold step. Senator Yayi was carefully selected as the best among an array of equally capable aspirants with proven qualities,” he said.

Prince Abiodun Akinboyede further recalled his strategic role in the political rise of Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, noting that he previously served as Secretary of the West 2 West Strategy Team, a platform he said was instrumental in Yayi’s emergence as the representative of Ogun West in the Senate. He described the experience as both instructive and a clear demonstration of what can be achieved through “clear vision, disciplined coordination, and a shared commitment to purpose.”

“Our past success with the West 2 West strategy proves what vision and coordination can achieve,” Akinboyede said.

He added that it is on this foundation that he is renewing his commitment to the Yayi project, pledging to deploy his experience, insight, and dedication toward building the necessary momentum for Yayi’s emergence as governor, saying, “What worked before is still relevant—but we must scale it to match today’s realities.”

Speaking on the road to 2027, Akinboyede expressed strong confidence that the same strategic framework that delivered past success remains relevant. However, he cautioned that the governorship race presents a broader and more complex challenge that would require deeper engagement and wider collaboration across all parts of Ogun State.

He said, “The 2027 task is bigger, more complex, and requires deeper statewide engagement.”

Reaffirming his loyalty, Akinboyede pledged continued support for the APC candidate.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Senator Yayi and reaffirm my commitment to the tasks ahead as we work together towards victory in 2027,” he concluded.

The endorsement adds to growing momentum behind Yayi’s candidacy, as stakeholders across Ogun State continue to rally support ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Southern ALGON APC States Endorse Tinubu for Second Term, Cite Continuity and Grassroots Development

0

The Southern chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, citing continuity, stability, and ongoing development efforts across key sectors.

The endorsement was announced at the maiden edition of the ALGON Southern Forum held in Ikeja, Lagos, where chairmen and representatives of local governments from APC-controlled Southern states convened to deliberate on national governance and grassroots development.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the Deputy National President of ALGON and Imo State ALGON Chairman, Ikenna Tony Adikaibe, said the decision followed extensive discussions and a comprehensive assessment of the current administration’s performance.

According to him, the forum carefully reviewed the policies and leadership direction of the federal government and acknowledged visible efforts aimed at strengthening national growth and improving grassroots welfare.

“After a thorough and objective assessment of the leadership and policies of the current administration, the association acknowledged the ongoing efforts and strides recorded in key sectors impacting national growth and grassroots development,” he stated.

He added that the endorsement was made in the interest of continuity and sustained development across the country.

The association further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government policies that promote good governance, economic expansion, and improved welfare delivery at the local level.

Chairman of ALGON in Lagos State and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, explained that the forum was established to unify local government leaders across Southern Nigeria to take a common stance on national issues affecting member states.

“It has become imperative for all leaders of local government across the south to come together and forge a common position on the issues that bother our nation and also our member states,” he said.

In a related resolution, the Southern ALGON forum also passed a vote of confidence in the ALGON leadership under Bello Lawal, commending its coordination and representation of local government interests.

The forum concluded with a call for unity among political stakeholders, urging Nigerians to continue supporting initiatives that foster peace, stability, and national development.

Guinness Nigeria Surpasses ₦1 Trillion Market Cap as Shares Rally on Strong Earnings

0

Guinness Nigeria Plc has crossed a historic threshold on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), opening trading with a market capitalisation of ₦1.093 trillion—its highest valuation in 76 years of operations.

The milestone reflects a sustained bullish run in the company’s shares, driven by strong investor demand and a significant earnings recovery that has reshaped market sentiment.

According to NGX trading data, Guinness Nigeria opened at ₦499 per share, extending a rally that saw a 7.80% gain in the previous trading session. Early market activity pointed to continued buying pressure, signaling that investor optimism remains firmly intact.

The company’s valuation has surged steadily in recent weeks, rising from about ₦1.01 trillion on April 10, 2026, with an enterprise value of approximately ₦1.05 trillion. By April 12, 2026, the stock had closed at ₦462.90, reinforcing a strong upward trajectory and sustained confidence in its outlook.

Analysts describe the ₦1 trillion milestone as a major market re-rating, fueled by improved fundamentals and a clear turnaround in financial performance over the past 18 months.

For the period ended December 31, 2025, Guinness Nigeria reported revenue of ₦730.80 billion, while gross profit surged by 152% to ₦230.48 billion, reflecting stronger margins and improved operational efficiency.

More significantly, the company returned to profitability, posting a net profit after tax of ₦41.16 billion after a previous loss-making position—an outcome that marked a major turnaround in its financial trajectory.

ICPC arraigns former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai on nine charges of fraud and money laundering as court orders detention pending bail ruling

El-Rufai Faces Court Over Fraud, Money Laundering Charges as Judge Orders ICPC Custody

The trial of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, took a dramatic turn on Monday as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) formally arraigned him before the Kaduna State High Court.

The proceedings, held before Honourable Justice Darius Khobo at Court 5, saw El-Rufai docked on a nine-count amended charge bordering on alleged advance fee fraud and money laundering.

The arraignment followed a key legal development, as the ICPC prosecution team, led by Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, successfully amended the initial charge.

The original joint charge involving El-Rufai and co-defendant Amadu Sule was split after Sule failed to appear in court.

According to a statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, Okor Odey, the absence of the second defendant was attributed to a medical condition.

With no objection, the court granted the prosecution’s application, allowing the trial of El-Rufai to proceed independently.

Upon the reading of the nine amended charges—filed under multiple laws including the Corrupt Practices Act 2000 and the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006—El-Rufai pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The prosecution thereafter urged the court to fix a trial date and ensure the defendant’s presence throughout proceedings.

In response, defence counsel informed the court of a pending application and requested bail on liberal terms for the former governor.

After hearing both sides, Justice Khobo adjourned the matter for ruling on the bail application to Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Pending the bail decision, the court ruled that El-Rufai be remanded in the custody of the ICPC.

The case marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive, drawing national attention as legal proceedings against the high-profile former governor begin in earnest.

ADC Convention Kicks Off in Abuja Amid Venue Controversy, Over 3,000 Delegates Gather

0

No fewer than 3,000 delegates have converged on the Rainbow Event Centre for the ongoing national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant gathering of party stakeholders from across the country.

Delegates, adorned in vibrant and diverse attires, arrived from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, reflecting a strong show of unity within the party.

Security was visibly tight at the venue, with personnel conducting detailed screening before granting access. Accreditation of delegates is currently underway under the supervision of the accreditation sub-committee led by Austin Akobundu.

Speaking at the event, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, stated that delegate allocation was structured based on state size to ensure fair and balanced representation during proceedings.

However, Idigo raised concerns over difficulties encountered in securing a suitable venue for the convention, alleging that multiple event centres and private establishments declined to host the party due to external pressure and intimidation.

According to him, attempts to secure prominent venues, including the Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium in Abuja, were unsuccessful, with requests either ignored or rejected without explanation.

“We approached several venues, including hotels and event centres, but once they realised it was ADC, they declined, citing fear of possible repercussions,” he said.

He further disclosed that even the Rainbow Event Centre initially considered cancelling the booking following alleged threats but proceeded after the party insisted, having already made payments.

Idigo lamented what he described as a hostile business environment, questioning why private operators could not function freely without fear of intimidation, noting that such situations could lead to financial losses.

The convention is expected to conclude the party’s internal congresses, ratify a new constitution, and lay the groundwork for upcoming primary elections.

Florence Ajimobi Denies Bribery Allegations, Labels Impeachment Plot Claims ‘Malicious Propaganda’

0

Former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, has firmly denied allegations accusing her of offering bribes to lawmakers in a purported plot to impeach Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by her media office, Ajimobi described the claims as “entirely false and baseless,” insisting they were fabricated to tarnish her image and mislead the public.

Lawmakers Also Reject Allegations

The denial follows earlier rebuttals by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and Deputy Speaker Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who both dismissed any involvement in an alleged impeachment scheme.

The lawmakers also denied receiving financial inducements or participating in any plot aimed at destabilising the state government.

No Meeting, No Impeachment Plot — Ajimobi

Ajimobi further refuted claims that she attended or hosted meetings—whether in Lagos or elsewhere—where plans to influence the Assembly were discussed.

According to the statement, she neither convened nor participated in any gathering intended to discuss impeachment or disrupt governance in Oyo State.

‘Malicious Political Propaganda’

Describing the reports as “malicious political propaganda,” Ajimobi said the allegations were part of a deliberate attempt to discredit her, particularly among the people of Oyo State.

She also distanced herself from the activities of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, stating that the claims were rooted in mischief and “reverse propaganda.”

Commitment to Peace and Possible Legal Action

Reaffirming her commitment to democratic values and stability, Ajimobi maintained that she has never engaged in actions capable of undermining peace in the state.

Her media office urged the public to disregard the allegations, warning that the spread of false information could heighten political tensions. It also indicated that legal action may be pursued if the claims are not withdrawn.

Despite the controversy, Ajimobi remains focused on her humanitarian work and broader societal contributions, undeterred by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”

Dangote Refinery Powers Historic Shift as Nigeria Emerges Net Petrol Exporter, Earns Fresh Forex

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has recorded a major milestone in Nigeria’s energy history, exporting 44,000 barrels per day (b/d) of gasoline in March 2026, an achievement that has positioned Nigeria as a net exporter of petrol for the first time ever, with a surplus of approximately 3,000 b/d during the month.

The landmark performance marks a decisive turnaround for Africa’s largest oil-producing nation, which for decades relied heavily on imported refined petroleum products. Industry experts say the surge in exports, driven by rising output from the Dangote Refinery, is expected to deliver substantial foreign exchange inflows, easing pressure on Nigeria’s forex market while supporting overall macroeconomic stability.

The March export milestone underscores Nigeria’s accelerating progress toward self-sufficiency in refined petroleum products and strengthens its ambition to become a competitive supplier in the global downstream energy market.

In a significant expansion of its international footprint, the Dangote Refinery also exported gasoline to East Africa for the first time, delivering a 317,000‑barrel cargo to Mozambique. The shipment reflects growing regional demand as East African buyers diversify supply sources away from the Middle East Gulf amid ongoing supply disruptions. A further gasoline cargo from the refinery is scheduled for delivery to Beira, Mozambique, in April.

Supporting data from market intelligence firm Kpler showed that Nigeria’s gasoline imports fell sharply to 41,000 b/d in March, the lowest level ever recorded. At the same time, crude oil supply to the Dangote facility climbed to approximately 565,000 b/d, the second-highest intake since the 650,000 b/d-capacity refinery began operations in late 2023. The figures point to strong processing rates and rising product yields across the complex.

Analysts say Nigeria’s transition from a major gasoline importer to an exporter is poised to reshape regional trade flows and intensify competition in global fuel markets. The development is also expected to add pressure to Europe’s already oversupplied gasoline market as Nigeria increasingly competes with traditional suppliers.

Commenting on the broader economic implications, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, recently credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and energy sector reforms for restoring investor confidence and creating the policy environment necessary for large-scale investments in domestic refining.

With rising output, expanding export markets, and declining imports, the Dangote Refinery’s performance signals a turning point for Nigeria’s energy sector, one that promises stronger forex earnings, improved energy security, and a more influential role for the country in global petroleum product trade.
