Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism to his supporters that incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun will end up backing him to become the next Governor of the state.
The billionaire oil mogul reportedly made the assertion at a political meeting earlier on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
This assertion is in the face of last week’s defiance stand by Governor Amosun that he would rather work for the emergence of the candidate of a rival party to become his successor than throw weight behind the flag bearer of his party.
Amosun is backing his preferred choice Adekunle Akinlade – who defected from the APC to become the gubernatorial flag bearer of the Allied People’s Movement – to take over his seat.
The Governor made his stance public last week after weeks of raging underground talks.
Abiodun, the chief executive officer at Heyden Oil and estranged friend of the outgoing governor of Ogun state, however, expressed optimism that the governor will dump his preferred candidate, Akinlade to support own Guber campaign.
It was gathered that the main reason for Abiodun’s newly found confidence that Amosun would eventually dump Akinlade to back his own gubernatorial ambition.
Newsheadline247 understands that President Muhammadu Buhari has finally been made to see the reason to take a firm stand on the issue.
“And the position is that Amosun works for the emergence of Abiodun as the governor Ogun state” a source informed.
Insiders also disclosed that the circle of influence that gets things done for the President has made it clear to Amosun that working against Abiodun in Ogun state will not be tolerated and it will have grave consequences for the governor.
“They want to wipe Amosun back in line because of the obvious division the governor’s stance is causing in the state and the risk he poses for the party past election whether he installs a successor or not” the source stated.
It was further learnt that Amosun now faces the threat of the might of “the state” in the new twist to gubernatorial fight in Ogun state.
