Ogun PDP insists Oladipupo Adebutu remains its 2027 governorship candidate after INEC omitted his name from its list, urging supporters to remain calm
Ogun 2027: PDP Fires Back Over INEC’s Omission of Adebutu, Insists He Remains Candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has insisted that Oladipupo Adebutu remains its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, expressing confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will publish his name despite his omission from the commission’s list.
The party said Adebutu had fulfilled the requirements for membership registration within the stipulated period and remained a bona fide member of the PDP.
In a statement dated Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Ogun State PDP Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, urged party members and supporters to remain calm, insisting that the omission would not undermine the party’s preparations for the governorship election.
The party maintained that Adebutu had not defected from the PDP and had completed its digital membership registration process within the designated period.
According to the statement, his membership card had been printed, verified and submitted to INEC at the appropriate time.
The PDP also alleged that pressure on the electoral commission was responsible for the omission, linking the development to concerns surrounding the 2027 election. However, the party did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation in its statement.
Despite the development, the opposition party expressed confidence that INEC would publish Adebutu’s name, urging supporters across Ogun State to remain focused on their political activities.
“We enjoin the good people of Ogun State to be calm and rest assured that our governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu’s name will be published by INEC and he will emerge as the Governor of Ogun State in the 2027 general elections,” the statement said.
The party further insisted that the omission would not affect its resolve to contest the election, describing its preparations for the 2027 governorship poll as ongoing.
It also reiterated its intention to seek the support of Ogun residents, promising improved leadership and positive change as part of its political appeal.
Adebutu’s omission from INEC’s list has introduced another point of contention into the political contest ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election. The issue of his candidacy now centres on the PDP’s position that he fulfilled the relevant membership requirements and its expectation that the electoral commission will publish his name.
The commission’s position on the omission, including any explanation for the decision, was not contained in the information provided by the party.

Salako-Oyedele Backs Yayi for 2027, Donates 12,000 Yards of Ankara to Ogun APC Candidate
Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele has publicly declared support for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, in a political move that signals a push for unity within the ruling party ahead of the poll.
Salako-Oyedele disclosed that she led leaders and members of the NSO Political Family to visit Adeola, where they presented 12,000 yards of branded Ankara fabric as a demonstration of their support for his candidacy.
In a statement recounting the visit, the deputy governor said the delegation expressed confidence in Adeola’s record of public service and his capacity to lead Ogun State if elected.
She said the group believed Adeola could build on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and take the state to greater heights.
“We expressed our joy and confidence in his candidacy, recognising his impressive track record of service and commitment to the people,” Salako-Oyedele said.
“We believe in his capacity to build on the achievements of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON and Insha Allah lead Ogun State to even greater heights.”
Adeola, in his response, thanked the deputy governor and members of her political group for the donation, while stressing the need for unity and inclusion within the APC as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
According to Salako-Oyedele, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to building a party structure in which members would have a role to play and their contributions would be recognised.
“He emphasised that unity within our party is essential, not only for electoral victory but also for effective governance and service delivery to the people of Ogun State,” she said.
The deputy governor welcomed Adeola’s message, describing inclusiveness and party unity as important principles for the APC as it approaches the election and looks beyond the campaign period.
The meeting and the presentation of the Ankara fabric provide a public indication of Salako-Oyedele’s support for Adeola’s candidacy. The political significance of the move will depend, in part, on how effectively the party’s different groups work together across Ogun State ahead of the election.
Salako-Oyedele called for divine support for the group’s political efforts, expressing hope for a brighter future for the state.
