PDP Ogun deputy governorship candidate Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo receives prayers and a new Qadriyyah title at the 60th Olohungbo Maulud Nabiyy in Abeokuta
Ogun 2027: Muslim Leaders Pray for PDP’s Kolapo, Confer New Qadriyyah Title on Her
Hajia (Dr.) Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, has received prayers and blessings from Islamic scholars as she continues her political journey ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Kolapo received the prayers during the 60th anniversary of the Olohungbo Maulud Nabiyy celebration held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where thousands of Muslim faithful gathered for the annual all-night Qadriyyah Sufi programme.
The religious gathering attracted Muslim worshippers from different parts of Nigeria and beyond, with Sheikh Qaribullah Nasir Kabara leading the event alongside a delegation of prominent Islamic scholars from Kano.
During the programme, Sheikh Kabara and other scholars and Imams prayed for Kolapo’s success in her political aspirations and described her as a Muslim worthy of emulation.
The leader of the Qadriyyah Sufi movement in Ogun State, Sheikh Abdul Azeez Olohungbo, also offered prayers for Kolapo and her principal, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, as they pursue their political ambitions.
The cleric subsequently announced the conferment of the title Iya Adinni Qadriyyah of Ogun State on Kolapo, in recognition of what was described as her role and contributions within the Muslim community.
Kolapo, who is the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and Ameerah General of Ogun State, also holds the title of Zeenatul Qadriyyah of Nigeria.
The gathering brought together Islamic scholars, Imams and Muslim faithful for prayers and religious observances, while the recognition of Kolapo added a political dimension to the event as the PDP prepares for the 2027 Ogun governorship contest.
