The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 10 passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers in Awa-Ijebu, while a suspected member of the gang was neutralised during a follow-up operation along the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road.
The passengers, who were abducted from a commercial bus at Orita Fufu, Awa-Ijebu, on November 3, regained their freedom unharmed at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, following sustained security operations and intelligence efforts by the police.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, November 8, 2026.
Babaseyi said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a follow-up operation at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, storming a suspected hideout belonging to the kidnappers along the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road.
He said the operation triggered a gun battle between the police operatives and the suspected criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspected kidnapper, while other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the hideout included an AK-47 rifle, 20 rounds of ammunition, ₦1,376,800 in cash and a mobile phone.
The police spokesperson said the Command had intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Babaseyi urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seen with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
The latest operation underscores the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
