The National Chairman of a faction of the Accord Party, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has announced the withdrawal of the party’s support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Imumolen made the announcement on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Osun State governorship mega rally in Osogbo.
According to him, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had resolved to support the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, in the August 15 election.
“On behalf of the Accord and with all our National Working Committee members here present, we withdraw our support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and support AMBO,” Imumolen declared.
He urged Accord members and supporters across the state to vote for Oyebamiji and the APC during Saturday’s poll.
“All our members are enjoined to vote for AMBO and the APC in Saturday’s election,” he added.
The endorsement came a day after the Accord Party suspended its mega rally scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, amid an internal crisis within the party.
Imumolen explained that the decision to back Oyebamiji followed the party’s inability to mobilise its members for the planned mega rally.
Speaking at the APC rally, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, expressed confidence in the party’s chances of winning the election.
Uzodinma urged Osun residents to support Oyebamiji, saying an APC victory would usher the state into the fold of progressive-governed states.
“Vote AMBO, vote prosperity, vote Osun for the state to be prosperous. We 31 state governors are in the state in solidarity and to welcome the state to the fold of the progressives,” he said.
Oyebamiji, meanwhile, promised to run a people-oriented administration focused on good governance and improving the welfare of residents if elected.
He said his administration would prioritise governance and work to improve the lives of people across the state.
“Our government that will be elected on August 15, 2026, will be a government of the people, and we will stand on your mandate. No dance anymore, but strict governance. I have the mandate to touch the lives of the people of Osun,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC leader in Osun State and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, also appealed to voters to support Oyebamiji, describing him as a tested and trusted candidate.
“Let’s support Oyebamiji. His track record is there compared to how other candidates have fared,” Oyetola said.
