Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has welcomed the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a significant victory in the fight against insecurity.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dave Agboola, Obasa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as their swift and coordinated efforts that secured the release of the victims on July 10, 2026.

The Speaker praised the dedication and resilience of the security agencies and other stakeholders involved in the operation, saying the rescue had restored hope to the affected families and strengthened public confidence in the government’s commitment to protecting lives and combating insecurity.

Obasa congratulated the rescued pupils, teachers and their families, while expressing sympathy to those who lost loved ones during the incident. He assured the bereaved families of the solidarity of the Lagos State House of Assembly and prayed for comfort and strength in their time of grief.

He also commended the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, for standing by its members throughout the period of the abduction. Obasa recalled that on June 2, 2026, members of the Lagos State chapter of the union staged a peaceful protest to the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding urgent action while the victims remained in captivity.

According to him, the successful rescue demonstrates that effective collaboration among government institutions, security agencies and local communities remains crucial to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Obasa further called for renewed efforts to strengthen security around schools across the country, stressing the need to safeguard children and ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
