PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, 9 Others, Dissolves Five State EXCOs in Historic Party Purge
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday carried out one of the boldest disciplinary actions in its history, expelling former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, and nine other top chieftains over alleged āserial anti-party activities.ā
The main opposition party also dissolved the executive councils of Rivers, Abia, Imo, Plateau and Enugu States in a dramatic cleanup move aimed at restoring internal cohesion ahead of future elections.

The decisions were announced during the partyās 2025 Elective National Convention held at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Ibadanāan event many party leaders described as the beginning of a new era for the PDP.
The expelled members include, Hon. Abraham Amah, Hon. Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN), Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, George Turner, Chief Dan Orbih, Muhammed Abdulrahman and Hon. Sistine Nwachukwu.
Their offenses, according to the party, ranged from supporting opposition candidates in recent elections to sponsoring parallel congresses, working against the 2025 National Elective Convention, and instituting litigations to derail party processes.
A respected PDP elder and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, moved the motion for the expulsion, citing Article 33(2) and Article 58(1)(b)(i) of the partyās constitution.

He said, āThe party has completely lost its esteem, regard and respect in the eyes of the public on account of the despicable conduct of the former governor of Rivers State and these men he recruited to help him destroy the party.ā
He argued that the expelled members committed āvarious breaches,ā including backing lawsuits aimed at stopping the national convention. Chief Georgeās motion was seconded by Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who hosted the national convention, moved the motion for the dissolution of the five state executive councils. He said the party had endured āa long stretch of battlesā before reaching this turning point.
āBy Godās grace, this convention will go down as the one that brought the turnaround to the Peoples Democratic Party nationally,ā Makinde said.

Emotional scenes played out as the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, praised the resilience of party members.
āQuite frankly, for me, if I die today, I will thank God⦠For those of us who believe in this party, this party will not die.ā
Speaking for the Senate Caucus, Senator Abdul Ningi declared, āThis is a clear indicator that PDP is not dead. Our vision is beyond 2027. We are gathered here to ensure Nigerians continue to have a feel of democracy.ā
Hon. Fred Agbedi, speaking for the House of Representatives Caucus, said the expulsion was needed to prevent āfifth columnistsā from further sabotaging the party. Read More
