Friends, family members, political allies and prominent Nigerians on Monday converged in Abuja to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The solemn remembrance ceremony brought together governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders and supporters from across the country to celebrate the life, legacy and public service of the late Nigerian leader.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Buhari’s widow and former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, alongside former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), who joined members of the Buhari family and close associates in paying tribute to the former president.
The event served as a moment of reflection on Buhari’s decades of service to Nigeria, both as a military Head of State and later as a democratically elected president.
Speakers and attendees acknowledged his contributions to the country’s political evolution while offering prayers and words of encouragement to his family one year after his passing.
The large turnout of political leaders, traditional institutions and religious figures underscored Buhari’s enduring influence and the respect he continued to command across Nigeria’s political landscape.
The memorial also highlighted the extensive relationships Buhari built throughout his military career, political journey and years in public office.
The ceremony concluded with prayers, tributes and moments of silence in honour of the late former president and his service to the nation.
