‘Remi Tinubu Has No Place in Presidency’ – Warri Monarch Sparks Controversy with Remarks on First Lady

The Alema of Warri Kingdom, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, has stirred controversy after criticizing Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, over what he described as her involvement in matters concerning the Itsekiri people and Delta State.

Speaking during an event in Warri, Delta State, the traditional ruler argued that the First Lady should not interfere in issues affecting the Warri Kingdom, insisting that such matters are beyond her purview.

Uduaghan questioned the role of the First Lady in governance and national affairs, maintaining that her primary responsibilities should be centered on her family rather than political issues.

According to him, greater attention should be directed toward addressing pressing national concerns, including insecurity and the growing incidence of kidnappings across parts of the country.

The monarch cited reports of abductions in Osun State and northern Nigeria, expressing concern over the plight of victims and their families. He questioned what he perceived as the First Lady’s response to such challenges, particularly given her position as a mother and public figure.

“Remi Tinubu has no place in the Office of the President. Her responsibility should be limited to her family. She should take care of her responsibility by taking care of her husband and children,” he said.

He further accused the First Lady of meddling in affairs relating to Warri, expressing frustration over what he described as continued interference in matters affecting the Itsekiri people.

The remarks have since generated reactions, with observers debating the role of First Ladies in governance and public affairs, as well as the implications of traditional rulers openly criticizing members of the country’s first family.
