Sanwo-Olu Swears In Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as Agege LG Chairman

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Monday swore in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government, formally entrusting him with the leadership of the council following months of acting stewardship.

Obasa, who is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, had been serving in an acting capacity after the former chairman, Tunde Azeez, resigned from office on health grounds.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Lagos House, Ikeja, where Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the new chairman to see his appointment as a call to service rather than a privilege.

Speaking at the event, the governor stressed that governance in Lagos State is anchored on the selection of competent, trustworthy individuals who are prepared to deliver measurable results.

“Leadership in Lagos State is defined by service, discipline, and results,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He added, “The office you now occupy is not a reward; it is a responsibility. The people of Lagos expect diligence, integrity, and impact — and they deserve nothing less.”

The governor further noted that leadership decisions in the state would continue to reflect the will of the people and the administration’s commitment to results-driven governance across all tiers.

In his acceptance remarks, Obasa assured residents of Agege of an inclusive and united administration, revealing that reconciliation efforts had been ongoing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and across the local government following the party’s primary election.

He pledged to work closely with party leaders, community stakeholders, and residents to ensure peace, unity, and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

Obasa also reaffirmed his commitment to delivering effective governance that addresses the needs and aspirations of the people of Agege. Read More
