The camp of Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari has strongly denied reports linking the former Zamfara State governor to the recent seizure of gold bars by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe, the senator described the allegations as “false, defamatory and politically motivated.”
According to the statement, Senator Yari has no connection whatsoever to the gold seizure case and was never mentioned by the EFCC as either a suspect or a person of interest in the investigation.
The statement accused unnamed political opponents of orchestrating a smear campaign aimed at damaging the reputation of the senator, whom it described as one of Nigeria’s influential political figures and a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are fully aware of the individuals and interests behind this latest round of propaganda,” the statement said, alleging that Senator Yari’s growing political relevance and relationship with President Tinubu had unsettled some political adversaries.
The senator’s camp maintained that the allegations were part of a coordinated effort to undermine his standing after previous attempts through legitimate political means had failed.
Despite the controversy, the statement said Senator Yari remains focused on providing effective representation for the people of Zamfara West Senatorial District and contributing to national development.
The statement further disclosed that Senator Yari’s legal team has been directed to initiate legal proceedings against individuals, groups and media platforms involved in publishing and amplifying the allegations.
It stressed that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it should not be used as a tool to spread falsehoods or damage the reputation of innocent citizens.
The public was urged to disregard the reports linking the senator to the gold seizure, describing them as a politically orchestrated campaign with no factual basis.
